Describing Current Situation

In the present U.S. society, particularly under the administration of President Donald Trump, it is becoming increasingly common to come across businesses saying that they have rights for refusing service. Based on common sense, it becomes evident that an enterprise does not need to serve consumers, especially if they are unruly or that the customers threaten or abuse organizational employees (Everyday Health, 2017) . In the same vein, a large number of businesspersons are citing religious or moral reasons by declining to offer services. Most enterprises are increasingly exercising the right when they deem appropriate (Karimi, 2018) . However, questions arise as to whether it is appropriate for enterprises to post signs that discriminate certain kinds of customers based on their religion. It is sometimes appropriate if the situation might affect a business negatively.

Enterprises serve as places that target accommodating the public. This serves as an indication that they should be prepared to deal with the diverse public needs. They normally seek as well as invite the public’s patronage, thus leading them to be subject to similar anti-discrimination laws that safeguard employees looking for promotion or employment (Karimi, 2018) . In general, the 1964 Civil Rights Act hinders discrimination while it assures all individuals rights for realizing equal as well as full enjoyment of facilities, services, goods, advantages, privileges as well as accommodations from any public place while not being exposed to discrimination in terms of religion or other basis.

Pertaining to the issue of right for denying services based on religion, moral as well as religious debates have emerged, while they have gained significant recognition during the administration of Donald Trump. Irrespective of the numerous anti-discrimination safeguards that prevail in the entire nation, certain business patrons are not receiving services because of the religious convictions that the enterprises’ owners or the workers have. For example, it has been noted that certain pharmacists decline availing birth control pills especially for the women who are unmarried or emergency contraception due to their religious beliefs (Scott, 2018) . For these pharmacists, they are under the protection of refusal clauses that permit the conscience of a person’s moral values to follow their business protocols.

Presently, the refusal influences the medical environment, including nurses, doctor, clinics, hospitals, and pharmacists, although it is with a valid reason. For instance, a certain physician might not support abortion, but might receive orders from a single client to offer the service. By contrast, the major issue characterizing the legal system of America revolves around the idea whereby court decisions might hinder clients from purchasing material perceived as objectionable (Scott, 2018) . Here, in case religions convictions serve as acceptable reasons for declining from offering a service, it might not be possible to hinder businesspersons from refusing to offer services to alcoholics or other groups for religious reasons.

Impact of Potential Policy Changes

Potential policy changes to the issue of the right to offer services to consumers due to religious reasons might have numerous effects. One of the major issues that might emerge would be that of enhanced hate crimes. Any form of discrimination based on the religious beliefs of an individual might end up emerging as physically dangerous thus not possible to tolerate it. Irrespective of whether a business discriminates through religious means, declining to offer services to customers might lead to the emergence of physical and violent movements. For instance, do not commence with death camps. They mostly result from minor economic sanctions that alienate certain groups or people from certain societal segments. The pose challenges when it comes to acquiring jobs or purchasing products from certain enterprises once the group is perceived as a threat (Coble, 2018) . When this issue starts becoming increasingly comfortable, situations worsen to an extent that it becomes acceptable to hurt the individuals discriminated based on their religion.

Whereas such kinds of activities might serve as self-protection in the event of businesspersons declining from offering services to individuals that they perceive as a threat, they end up creating avenues for situations in which genocide might arise. Declining to offer serves based on religious beliefs indicates that a certain group needs eradicating from the society. It also depicts that people need punishment based on their beliefs. It is perceived as a crime when certain individuals initiate a certain crime based on the religion of a person. No modern society accepts hate crime (Insureon, 2018) . Hence accepting different kinds of customers irrespective of their religious beliefs would facilitate in fostering peace, which would hinder the society from escalating into physical, social, or economic violence.

Furthermore, instituting policies that would support the right to decline offering services might lead the situation to become personal, which might end up ruining businesses. For any enterprise that discriminates individuals depending on their religion, it would end up suffering tremendously irrespective of whether it anticipates doing so or not. Citizens together with activists do not just sit down and perceive religious discrimination as a minor issue. They end up fighting to ensure that their rights are observed. While the media might be willing to assist, it becomes challenging to control the issue based on its effect on businesses. Declining offering services creates challenges for enterprises since it leads enterprises to give up the control that they have (Scott, 2018) . It does not matter whether the intentions are noble or not. These events end up easting the profitability of an enterprise while at the same time leading to bad press. Ideal businesspersons realize the issue before deciding whether to deny services.

Due to the harsh effects of declining to offer services to individuals based on religious grounds, persons who are concerned about the welfare of their businesses would not permit this form of incidence to occur. Supporting such acts means that individuals are not concerned about the welfare of their enterprise. They are usually thinking personally at this time. Individuals thinking personally concerning their businesses end up being ruined from the time they start operations (Insureon, 2018) . They lack the capacity for making logical decisions while they lay emphasis on fixing the personal feelings that they have toward their enterprises.

Recommendations for Responding to Policy Changes to Safeguard Business Interests

To deal with the negative implications of policy changes on the issue of hindering services based on religious grounds, certain recommendations prevail. Organizational employees need to have regular training concerning the rights that they have for declining to offer services as well as comprehend the issue of public administration. Enterprises adopting policies for refusing services should consider training the workforce of their business responsibilities and duties to ensure that their workforce have the capacity of safeguarding themselves against lawsuits in the event of a decline to offer services to consumers based on religious reasons. Enterprises need to make sure that their workforce has sufficient understanding of what the ‘arbitrary’ term entails as well as how declining to offer services to consumers might serve as federal law’s violation. In the same vein, it is vital to note that individuals should avoid making arbitrary decisions in a place meant for accommodating the public. Furthermore, individual consumers need to understand their rights concerning service refusal. They know how to act in a reasonable manner in those kinds of establishment (Everyday Health, 2017) . With reasonable consumers as well as accommodating enterprises, the issue of service denial might not arise while the court of law should deal with such issues when they arise.
