Job interviews require preparedness both before and during the interview process. It is never an easy process as it entails the interviewer getting interrogated by new people as they try to sell themselves through their skills. Interviewees should be enthusiastic through the interview process, and this calls for them to have some techniques that contribute to a successful interview process, as discussed hereinafter.

The interviewee is required to practice and prepare adequately before they meet the interview panel. Preparedness involves going through the usual questions that can be asked in any interview and practicing how to provide firm answers to such questions with confidence. It essential for one to include all their skills that could be relevant to the position. Additionally, the candidate should go through the job requirements and match them with their acquired skills before going for the interview. An interviewee should practice and have well-prepared responses before the process. Making a great first impression is an essential aspect for the interviewee. The first impression is observed from the moment the candidate steps in the organization and engages with all the people they come across until when they leave the interview.

During the interview process, the interviewee should try as much as possible to get connected to the interviewer besides indicating how they are familiar with the company. The candidate should try as much as possible to use the interviewer’s name during the process as it shows some level of respect. Building rapport and becoming connected to the interviewer increases the chances of a successful interview process that could most likely lead to securing a job. The candidate is required to sell themselves through their credentials and qualifications to the panel. This requires the interviewee to prove to the board that they are fit enough for the position and the organization.

A job candidate needs to do adequate research about the company and indicate the knowledge they have about the same. The candidate should do sufficient homework about the organization and be ready to answer any questions that could gauge if they are familiar with the organization. Additionally, the interviewee should still demonstrate their knowledge about the company even if they are not asked questions concerning the organization. Responding to the interview questions should demonstrate the candidate’s knowledge about the organization. Having adequate information about the company’s history is an important aspect that increases the chances of one getting considered for a position.

Getting ready ahead of time is an essential skill that any candidate should have. Early preparedness includes printing resumes in time and having the interview outfit ready before the aspired day, and waking up early enough to have some alone time before the interview helps the candidate to be less anxious. Punctuality on the interview day portrays the seriousness of the candidate, and it means getting to the interview at least a few minutes earlier than the expected time. During the interview, the job candidate should try as much as possible to stay calm and focused. Good listening skills are paramount as it is rude to interfere with the interviewer before they finish posing a question. A relaxed posture and calmness are body languages that communicate much about an individual. Maintaining eye contact as the candidate answers the questions and being attentive through the whole process indicates that the interviewee is alert and interested (Hollandsworth, Dressel & Stevens, 1977). Good communication skills require the candidate to avoid cutting off the interviewer at any point. One should take some time to say thank you at the end of the interview, as this is an excellent job etiquette. Appreciating the panel indicates that the candidate is interested in the position, and it is an indication of excellent follow-up skills.
