Triangulation is a technique used in research method to validate data from two or more sources. During research, there are methods of data collection used according to the type of research and the information to be gathered. Triangulation will hence help the researcher in identifying the best data collection method as well as acquire appropriate information in the research topic. When doing a research, the topic of the same phenomenon can be studied through the use of two or more research methods; this will provide the necessary information. In regards to the research method on the Positive Youth Development Programs in the United States Virgin Islands, the reseracher has used three methods of data collection so as to obtain the approrpaite informantion needed to develop the best program. The reasearch is categorized as qualitative research method that focuses on obtaining information throguh involving certain age bracket of the youth (Neuman, 2016) .
There are two main sources of data, the first is the primary source and the second is the secondary source. For the primary source; it is the process of obtaining data through first hand, whereby the researcher has to be involved in the data collection, examples of primary sources include obsevations, interviews, focus groups, surveys and experiments.Secondary data source; this is the process of obtaining data throguh othr sources, indirectly.Examples include; library sources, market studies and electronically stored sources. In order to obtain the appropriate triangulation basing on the research topic on the youth programs, the best method of data collection is the primary source.
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Participation observation; this is the primary source of data colection. In the research I will apply this method becaseu it is important in collecting first hand information. As a researcher,I will participate in various youth activities with the main purpose of gathering data in regards to;programs that are mostly prefered by the youth in particular region, the right time for the programs to be implemented, the age bracket of youth who participate in such programs and the technology that will best be used during these programs.Participation observation is important becasue as the observer,I can be able to observe and collect appropriate data.
Individual interviews; this is the method of collecting data through preparation of questions that the interviewee will answer. In this method of data collection,I will ensure that the questions used during interview are focused on obtaining information to be used in the research. The interview questions will be structured to fit the respondents. Each interview will last for ten minutes and the number of respondents will be selected through sampling. In order to have a backup on the information gathered from the interview,a recording gadget will be appropriate so as to record the information.
Focus groups; this is another method of data collection whereby a group of youths will be gathered and interviewed, focus group aims at collecting data through opinions and reviews from the groups. This method is used when collecting data that requires wide coverage as well as large number of respondents. The respondends will be involved in interractive sessions where I will be able to gather opinions and reviews regarding the topic under research. video recording will be used as the best means of capturing data during this research method.
Physical data; this type of research method relies on data obtained from archives or library. There are many sources of data that are collected and stored in electronic devices as well as internet sources.I will further my research method through obtaining data from internet records and article reviews regarding the youths and the programs. The advantage of using electronic data is becaseu it is easy to retrieve and also it will minimize time used to collect data. However, electronic data could be a disadvantage becaseu there are many types of information and this may result to plaggiarized data which will not be appropriate for the research.
