The study by Morton et al. (2006) identifies various problems for companies engaged in the global business. The problems global firms face entails the correct and efficient management of teams, the strict competition, and poor relationship networks. This among others ranks as some of the managerial concerns impacting on short- and long-term production of firms (Diamond, 2012). Thus, with the issues and concerns facing organizations, Morton et al. (2006) recommends efficient and quality development of world-class products as a key tool in fighting the competition. There is also need for encouraging a work culture that focuses on the maximization of staff skills toward the final improved performance. Similarly, as a tool in fostering relationships, firms must support and work towards fostering network interrelationships. As key tools, networks serve a vital task in the exchange of resources and also eliminate barriers existing in formalized structures. Finally, staffs are vital to firm’s success, hence relevant to improve communication and enhancing relationships in teams and departments.

The recommendations by Horton et al. (2006) are not only strong but also relevant to the success in a globally competitive market. Majorly, the authors advocate for improving relationships and communication across team or departments or organizations. The authors also propose the application of a multifaceted approach to dealing with the problems. In addition to creating world-class goods, it is vital for firms to improve the relationship in teams and also operational networks in staff. Vitally, product development must be aligned with the other essential components of the organization. Some takeaway is that there is a need for good communication and that firms face a multiplicity of problems which require the application of strategic management tools. The other key takeaway as also noted by Diamond (2012) is that proper decision making is vital, evaluating group performance and solving intra-team conflicts.
