According to Janssen et al (2013), a professional learning plan is used as a tool for planning a career, guide development; evaluate progress towards achievement of goals within a classroom setting. With a well-articulated plan, there is the highlight of short and long-term goals as well as mechanics on how to achieve the goals within the stipulated period of time. This essay provides a sample of a professional learning plan for kindergarten level addressing short term and long-term goals for a 2-4 year plan.

Often charged with teaching a multitude of knowledge levels, kindergarten teachers are exposed to different baled learners and have to develop effective plans to ensure the effectively develop their education, communication, and social skills. A successful teacher is able to asses each of her student needs and in turn, plans her group and herself towards the realization of the goals. With the existence of different professional goals, some of the key professional goals entail (i) student education and development (ii) creation of a positive learning environment and (iii) development of communication skills.

One of the major and general focuses for kindergarten teachers is education and social development of their learners. Teachers, in turn, set an environment that fosters young children interaction, independence and taking initiative. In terms of short term goals under education and development include; improvement of daily lesson plans to provide learners with opportunities for learners to grow. The long-term goal is to developing a model for learners to become scientific thinkers through the development of hypothesis and checking them out. Finally, the plan to reach the goal entails activities such as sharing of playing toys, drawing, writing, using utensils while eating as well as bicycle riding.

The creation of a positive learning environment not does support learning but also creates a desire for the learners to learn more within the setting. With reference to this, one key short term goal entails the provision of daily opportunities for learners to collaborate with each other. For the case of long term objectives, working on learners self-esteem to encourage an ever ongoing success within the class and outside environment. Development of a children-friendly environment provides the first step to successful engagement for the learners towards positive change. This can, in turn, be achieved through the development of student groups, sharing, and participation of the parents towards the provision of a positive environment.

Finally, there is the development of communication skills. Learners thrive in an environment that provides warm and communication which fosters a positive environment for learning. Short term goal is the engagement of learners with age-appropriate communication patterns. This is achieved through the use of descriptive language, matching spoken words with written ones, as well as providing daily opportunities to write, and building of vocabulary.
