I now pursue a BA in E ducation al Studies at the Empire State College in New York, which was recommended to me by my sister. My concentration is in Early Childhood Studies. I have professional expectations in this course even as I look forward to enrolling for a master’s degree in the field of bilingual early childhood teaching, after completing it. I expect to strengthen my knowledge regarding pre-school children and develop feelings of love for children. I expected acquire better ways of enhancing the learning experiences of every child and understanding individual needs of the pupils. After this particular course, I expect to get my teaching license in New York City. My focus in the graduate studies will be on the special needs children. I expect to work as a teacher for the children with disability.

There are a number of basic competencies, skills, knowledge and perspectives I must have for this profession. Being able to read the minds and psychology of children is one major competency required for this profession. The sources explain that understanding the psychology of children will enable me to know how they learn and gain knowledge. This competency would make me be able to predict the state of mind in which a child is at a given time and the right period for teaching them in a day (Ishimine & Tayler, 2014). It would also enable me to device effective techniques of passing knowledge to the students. Another key skill required for this profession is good and clear communication prowess. An early child educator must be able communicate unequivocally to the pupils in class. Knowledge of the various child developmental theories is important in this profession. Such theories enable the educator to understand the cognitive functioning of a child.
I expect a future of advanced technology in this profession. Early childhood education will become digital in nature (Timperley & Phillips, 2003). Virtually all processes in this profession will be done online. Therefore, to prepare for this future development, the sources propose gaining information technology knowledge. Being computer literate is the only way one will be able to survive in the future of early childhood education. Processes will have moved online. Children may start to do long distance learning.
To address the current and future expectations in this profession, I have chosen to undertake courses that will prepare me for the challenge. One of these courses is introduction to psychology. I also attend principles of communication class since there are a lot of stylistic devices and techniques needed to be employed by the educator while communicating before the pupils. I also take cross-cultural education so that I gain knowledge of the various cultures to handle children from diverse cultural backgrounds. I now also take computer education with an aim of gaining information technology literacy. I strongly believe these programs put me in a position of addressing the knowledge and skills expectations of your profession and of the 21st century workplace.
