Many topics arise from the discussions on psychology. This is because most of our daily activities involve the behavior of the mind while embracing all aspects of consciousness and unconsciousness. Psychology relates to aspects of the social and behavioral practices in an attempt to understand the role of mental functions (Myers & DeWall, 2014). The psychological knowledge acquired is useful in life situations where there is need to make decisions. There are a wide range of topics related to mental processes and behavior and can be applied even in organizational situations. According to Cooper (2017) psychology is all in mind and is important in time management, making and achieving goals, and living effectively.

Psychology related issues

In chapter 9 motivation and emotion are viewed as psychological features that share same factors and effects. Motivation is a force that activates behavior and is essential in performing all kinds of human activities. According to Franken (2015), motivation can also be referred to as arousal, direction, and persistence of a person's behavior. It applies in all instances of learned behaviors which means all learned activities cannot work unless when stimulated. Motivation can work as both a primary or secondary influence depending on the associated principles. On the other hand, emotions can be described as the subjective experience associated with mental states and some body-expressions (Myers & DeWall, 2014). One of the main similarity between the two terms is that they are both associated with intensity, and also they acquire the characteristic of pressure and heat. Past studies show that humans also have a nature of executing activities that would lead to stimulation of favorable emotions like happiness (Eagly, 2013).

Also in chapter 9 the issues of the hierarchy of needs are addressed. When people are motivated, they have the desire to achieve certain needs where some of them are prioritized than the others. According to Maslow (2013), the requirements are aimed at ensuring the physical survival of humans. The needs can be categorized into three where there are basic needs, psychological needs and self-fulfillment needs. The basic needs are the primary requirements in human life and include food, water, rest and security (Myers & DeWall, 2014). Other needs from different groups include relationships, friendship, prestige among others. The more one takes time before receiving such needs the higher the rate of motivation. An example is when one takes a long time before getting water, the thirstier one becomes. According to Maslow, in the five-stage model of needs, humans should start by fulfilling the common and most urgent needs before progressing to the others. Growth in one's life can be described as the fulfillment of basic needs and then progressing to the other requirements and reaching the self-actualization stage. The more motivation one has, the higher the probability of achieving growth.

Stress effects and health is another major topic as discussed in chapter 10 of the book. Factors that bring stress have a great effect on mood, behavior and health factors. Psychosocial stressors and disease relate regarding nature, number and the individual’s biological features. Depending on the effect brought by these factors, human being and animals stimulate responses to be able to cope with the issues (Myers & DeWall, 2014). The aspects of stress can be noted even in the early stages of childhood. The main causes of stress in children's life may include divorce by parents, abuse, exposure to violence among others. Past studies show that psychological consequences of exposure to such issues can lead to stress, depression, and health-related issues. Similarly, stressors that occur in the adulthood can be due to the stressful life events that one comes across. The psychological disorders associated with grown-ups also have great negative impacts.

Conclusion

The idea behind psychology is relating the daily human activities to the brain reaction. Emotions that positively affect the brain are beneficial to the human lifestyle. Factors that cause trauma and stress should be avoided when possible.
