There are no common federal or state laws that govern the public sector relations rather they are governed by policies obtained from common law doctrines, judicial decisions, executive orders, and statutes and ordinances that may vary from state to state. In the past decade, public sector labor relations have experienced limited growth with most states having passed several laws to assist in the bargaining process for public employees but a few still prohibiting collective bargaining in the public sector. During bargaining, union representative actions are viewed as tactics used to get the desired outcomes for employees from employers. With the bargaining power unions can be able to influence a policy, direct a goal as well as come up with a better alternative for pursuing a certain objective. Labor relations have created a friendly working environment as every employee has a chance to raise his or her concerns without being afraid of the management (Hagerdon et al 2016).
Leadership is a God-given responsibility with Jesus Christ as the perfect example of leadership and his servant leadership style is supposed to serve as a guide for Christians on how to approach leadership. Leaders are supposed to lead by example and servants will follow the example. Management teams practising servant leadership rarely experience issues with labor unions as they always strive to give a fair wage for work done, as Christ would have done. Collective bargaining is about ensuring a fair compensation for work done by employees which rhymes with the biblical view of work compensation. Campbellsville University’s (2018) Christian online program emphasizes that the Bible demands of people in leadership positions to show integrity, wisdom and humility when solving issues with workers and avoid foolish and ignorant disputes as they generate strife and that is exactly what management teams need when negotiating with labor unions.
