News events are a means through which members o the public get informed about what or how things are happening in the country. There are various shows all which discuss different topics such as politics, entertainment, as well as social events. Political talk shows discuss some of the events revolving around politics such as the performance of a particular party in parliament. The Rachel Maddow show MSNBC is among the American political shows that address political matters happening across the country. In a show published on Jan 31, 2019, titled “Blue Wave Democrats Bring New Productivity To House Committees,” Rachel discusses various topics on the politics of America. Among the topics she discusses is that of election results and the changes that occur over a span of two years regarding the same (Maddow, 2019). She starts by mentioning the 2016 elections in Kansas, which is a red state and how it was in favor of Trump, a Republican. Donald Trump was ahead of Hillary Clinton by 21 points.
However, two years later the same state elected a Democrat, Laura Kelly, as the state’s governor. The segment reports on how Democrats appeared to have gained the people’s favor as many Republicans lost to Democrats including the incumbent Republican Congressman Kevin Yoder, who lost to Sharice Davids. Another topic is that of defecting parties, where she adds that were 4 incidences in which Congressional Republicans had been seen switching to the Democratic Party (Maddow, 2019). According to Rachel, there is evidently a blue wave in Kansas, which is based on the elections that have been ongoing. She adds that the blue wave has contributed to the new productivity to house committees, which is also evident in the fact that there have been shifts from the Republican Party to the Democratic one.

The political talk show also includes a topic on voting. Rachel includes a clip from a previous story in Dodge City, Kansas, where she mentions that it has attracted many Hispanic people, hence becoming a city where the minority has become the majority. She mentions the decisions made about voting in Dodge City, where there was voter suppression that was attributed to the polling station being moved out of the town (Maddow, 2019). Rachel also reports on the many ways that Democrats are using their new House majority status to enact a productive agenda with regards to legislation and hearings. Some of the agendas are believed to have the ability to possibly of luring Republican votes as the support of Trump wanes.
In my opinion, I think that the idea of sending a producer and other team members to cover the story on the suppressed voting in Dodge City was a good move, thus agreeing with Rachel. It is important for reporters to cover such stories so as to enlighten other citizens of some of the injustices occurring in other parts of the country since voting is the right of each and every American. I commend the fact that she gives details on how the suppression of voting was done, which include video coverage of the same for credibility. This is because I agree with the fact that the ongoing construction should not have been reason enough to call for the moving of the polling station. According to Rachel, there was no justification for what Republicans were trying to get away with and I agree with that. I agree with Rachel that the blue wave can be attributed to the new productivity in the house committee as there have been incredible changes.
