Older People Who Are Very Confused and Have Dementia
Working with seniors who have dementia is difficult. Sometimes they may not recognize who I am. They can also fail to understand why I am trying to help them. Such kind of an experience is horrifying and troubling. However, I understand this situation and hence patience is important. I have learned that dementia can present itself in lapses and eventually they will remember me and the situation will be resolved ( Quadagno, 2013) . It hurts me to see senior citizens who are confused and can’t seem to figure out anything. Nonetheless, I remain calm believing that it will be okay. To deal with such cases, I have learned that writing cards to the elderly can serve as a reminder to the old that I care.
Older People With Emotional Problems Or Mental Illness
Senior citizens with mental illnesses and emotional problems go through a lot of hardships. Depression is one of the emotional problems that old people experience. I feel sorry for them, and sometimes I feel helpless. I try to fit myself in their shoes and what they could be going through internally. It is quite unfortunate that they have to go through such conditions. It makes me wonder how I will be during my senior years. Sometimes I even wish that illnesses never existed.

Older People with Serious Physical Disabilities
When I look at people with disabilities and particularly the old people, I can’t help but sympathize with them. To start with they are vulnerable to scarcities of health care services. Additionally, they are susceptible to secondary conditions and other health problems. Today most of the people tend to ignore the older generation, and in most cases, they would rather take them to nursing homes. Loneliness affects such individuals adversely, and it saddens me the pain they undergo.
My Aging Process
Honestly, I feel sad when I think of about the aging process. However, it is unavoidable, and I will have to face this fact whether I like it or not. I have spent time with several friends and acquaintances that are in their 60s. Previously, I worked for an organization where most of the workers were old and as a result made some friends ( Quadagno, 2013) . I feel sad because of the physical reality of getting old. I must admit that most of the senior citizens have managed to stay healthy but the fact is as one gets older the more susceptible we become to health problems such as High blood pressure. Nonetheless, one thing that I admire about aging is the issue of wisdom and maturity.
How the Society Will Be When I Become a Senior Citizen
When I become a senior citizen; so many things will have changed. I think things like family ties, work ethics and lifestyle will be much different from now. In future, important things such as relationships which are accompanied by commitment will be a thing of the past. Nowadays the relationships have become a trial period where if not satisfied you move on to another because people are unwilling to face the challenge. They would rather avoid them at all. So, if such conditions are happening today, then the future society is doomed ( Quadagno, 2013) .
In that era, people will sign contracts for a certain period where they will try and see it works or not. I believe that the future generation will be worse because of the moral decay of the values. Furthermore, the technology will make people “ robots ” because they will be unable to make decisions on their own ( Cox, 2015) . For instance, today, if one wants to learn something or perhaps has a problem “ Google ” is the way to go. Now the future generations will have progressed further to become “ automated robot .”
How I Feel About Working with the Elderly
It is such an honor working with intelligent senior citizens who have been in the school of life. These individuals are knowledgeable in almost every aspect. Furthermore, in every elderly person head, there is a unique world that I love exploring. These people have gone through a lot hence they have learned so much ( Cox, 2015) . I enjoy working with them because I feel as if I am honoring my grandparents. I show them love and take care of them because I believe they are the best company to be with. They are hilarious, and I am always happy whenever I spent time with them. They keep me entertained for many hours. When I am having a bad day, I just sit back and recall the sweet stories which help me to relax.
Challenges of Working with the Elderly
Working with senior citizens is not an easy task. There are various challenges that young people face while working with older generations. Older people are unwilling to seek help. Senior citizens fail to ask for help because they have confidence that they do not require help or are hesitant to give up on independence which they have acquired for many years ( Cox, 2015) . Most of the older people do not like taking advises from the young people. They view the youngster as incapable of making sound judgments when faced with challenges. The young people should not ask questions on the already made decisions because it is seen as disrespecting the elderly. in other words, when working with the elderly, the youngsters should observe and learn ways of avoiding conflicts.
Benefits of Working with the Elderly
I enjoy working with the old people because they have interesting stories that make e yearn for ore. They open up about their lives when they were young and the challenges they had to go through. Such stories are inspirational and motivational as they give me hope to soldier on with my life. They also open up on how they achieved their goals and objectives such as a career ( Quadagno, 2013) . For those who did not, they revealed to me reasons that held them back from achieving their dreams. They have wisdom that can help one to deal with daily challenges. I think that young people should spend time with the elderly to gain knowledge about life experiences and the challenges. Today technology is the center of this generation but the old people experiences are timeless and universal.
Personal Positive Experiences with the Elderly
I like giving back to the community, and this journey led me to a nursing home for the elderly. I enjoyed working there and in particular senior woman got attached to me. It all started when I bought a nice blanket for her and from then afterward she liked me. I could not believe that my gift made help open up as she constantly kept to herself ( Cox, 2015) . She was joyful and referred me as “my child.” I liked spending time with her as she narrated exciting adventures that she had experienced.
Personal Negative Experiences with the Elderly
I once tried to help a senior man up after he had fallen. Unfortunately and he started shouting that I wanted to kill him. He started running away, and I was like Sir I was just trying to help. I must admit that I was so scared and everyone could tell from the way I was shaking. Later I learned that he had dementia. It was a horrifying experience, but I understood the elderly man reactions.
