Position paper on abortion

Introduction

According to statics, the number of abortion cases has gone up in the last few years; this is due to economic and social factors. Abortion is known as the removal of a foetus from the before the period where it is viable to survive outside the womb also called termination. Abortion can be induced, or it can be spontaneous otherwise known as miscarriage ( Johnston, 2003) .

In the past the process was done by use of harmful tools; however, technology is advancing, and the medical sector has come up with methods for the process to be safe. However, the big issue surrounding this topic is mainly not about the procedure but the concept of securing the process. The debates have been on whether the process should be legal or not.

There are many opinions on this topic because some argue that there is more to it than meets the eye we cannot base it only on legal or moral views. There is also the freedom of choice, the woman or girl has a right to choose the fate of her pregnancy after all she carries it for the next nine months alone.

Position

I think there is more to the topic than just basing the decisions on morality and legality. I am pro-abortion because I think women and the society should have a chance to explore their options.

It is true when people say that if the woman did not want the baby, they should have thought of measure to prevent pregnancy beforehand. However what if they were prepared then their partner abandons them midway? The woman is not financially stable and bringing a baby into this world will only cause more suffering g for the two ( Johnston, 2003)

Argument

Most people even scholars are basing their argument on the fact that the embryo growing inside the woman has life and it is right to call the foetus a human. Their reasoning is that life begins at conception. Therefore a person going through the abortion process is committing murder against another person (Byrne, & Thompson, 2001) .

On a legal basis, since the action is murder, the mother is committing a crime in the eyes of the laws that is why they should be prosecuted. The other is that the practice is against the laws. This example means that when a girl or woman gets an abortion, they are breaking the rules and that in itself is a crime.

However, my argument is if the process were made legal it would make the process safe and affordable. The many deaths due to abortion are because the people could not afford the service of a professional, therefore they look for quacks because they are cheap, but in the end, they suffer. If the process were legal, it would be easy for a woman to walk in into a clinic and get the procedure done safely (Byrne, & Thompson, 2001)

Morally the process goes against all religious beliefs because God is the ultimate giver of life and it is not in our place to judge or decide who lives and who dies.

There are many cases of children being left on the streets by their mothers after they give birth, they leave them to die or for someone to see them and take care of them. There is a reason behind that action, and it is time for the society to reconsider the positions regarding abortion. We might look at the issue on moral and legal perspectives but we still find infants in garbage cans or abandoned in the streets.

Conclusion

Many factors come into play regarding abortion, even with the common economic factors, there is more to be done on sex education and the availability of the family planning options.
