Purpose of the study

The purpose of carrying out the research is to establish what influences college students to act the way they do? Also, the research purpose to understand whether there is a link between the personality of the student and their behavior that could lead them to committing suicide. More so, the research has the purpose of trying to analyze how behavior among college students shape their future experiences.

Literature Review

Earlier studies on causes of suicide among students stipulates that it is due to the manner in which the mind makes biased interpretation on situations at hand. Equally, the studies suggest that reward is the guidance to the attention and the manner in which the mind handles difficult situations. In addition, the studies show that cognition is all about self-reliance and the information relayed is what will determine the way a human will behave and the actions taken.

Hypothesis

Alternative Hypothesis: There is a statistical significant relationship between personality of college students and their behaviors/ committing suicide.

Null Hypothesis: There is no relationship between personality of college students and their behavior/ committing suicide.

Method

Participants

Twenty- five volunteers (18 males, with age ranging from 19 to 27 years). All provide informed consent prior to participation. Seven of the remaining participants were female with age ranging from 20 to 30 years. Any participant with a false alarm rate of 50% and above will be removed from the analysis.

Study Design

The design of the study is experimental. The participants will be divided into two different groups where one of the group will be the experimental group and the other one will be the control group.

Expected Data and Analysis

The data expected will be on the accuracy with the presence and absence of a distractor. Then a t-test and ANOVA will be carried out using SPSS so as to measure the statistical significance.

Anticipated Limitation

One of the expected limitation is when measuring the personality of the students as there exists no direct method that can be used to measure personality. The other anticipated limitation is the existence of differences in cognition. Different people perceive destructions on various lenses thus may affect the expected results.
