The book of Genesis presents the very first choice that mankind had in the Garden of Eden. When God had finished creating the entire good universe and handed it over to man, there was one thing that He did not allow them to do. He gave them the freedom to eat from all the trees of the garden apart from the tree of knowledge and evil and warned that they would die if they did (Gen 2:16,17). Having been warned against eating from the tree, man had the choice of obeying or disobeying his creator. The serpent eventually enticed man through Eve and they ate the forbidden fruit which made them discover they were naked and sin entered the world. Proverbs provide mankind with the choice between the way of wisdom and the way of folly, the way of life and death. In proverbs God describes the two choices of women that man has. The wise woman is described in (Proverbs 1:20 and 9: 1-4) while the worldly woman is described in Proverbs (9:13-18) and man has to choose the one to love and embrace. God does not want man to be wise because it is the wisdom that leads to sin against God and triggered pain and death as punishment. Above all, it strains the relationship between man and God.
Explain that prophets don’t always predict but rather activate. Include the idea of Intervening Historical Contingencies
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
Prophets do not claim to predict an inevitable and unchanging future. God works out his plans through the contingencies of human choices. The contingencies have a significant impact on the predictions particularly of the prophecies of the Old Testament. A human choice intervenes between prophetic predictions, and the fulfilment of the prophecy indicates that a prophecy may not necessarily have to pass because human choices may stop it. For instance, God instructed Prophet Jeremiah to go down to the potter’s house and make observations of how he would shape pot from clay and would form it as he wished. He then explained to Jeremiah how just like the clay used by the potter he was able to mould the house of Israel with his own hands. (Jeremiah 18:5-6). Jeremiah did not predict unchangeable occurrences in the future but activated the knowledge about God’s ability.
Explain the path of wisdom and folly and talk about the idea that blessings of the covenant do not always seem to work
The book of Proverbs presents two ways that man must choose from. To follow the way of wisdom or the way of folly. A wise man will travel on the way of folly that leads to life while a fool will travel on the way of folly that leads to death. God desires that man may choose the way of life. Covenant in the scriptures refers to the agreements made between God and mankind and that some people feel they do not seem to work or that the blessings are not always fulfilled. The goal of God’s plan it to demonstrate His glory. His plans are beyond human comprehension, but God always works for good especially for the people who love Him and are fulfilling his purpose (Romans 8:28).
Overview of the Bible beginning in Eden and ending in the new Creation
The life of mankind begun in the Garden of Eden where he had been given power over other creations. However, the relationship between man and God was strained when man gave in to the advice of Satan and ate the forbidden fruit. The initial relationship between man and God was broken, but for the love that God had for man, He gave man a chance for reconciliation first by offering his son, Christ to die on the cross. Anyone who repented his sins would be forgiven and become new in Christ again. God promises to create new heaven and earth and make the old things get forgotten (Isaiah 65:17) and promises that anyone who will accept Christ will be renewed (2Cor 5:17).
