Donald Trump has argued that Mexican immigrants are rapists and murderers, and that there is a need to ban all immigrants who are fleeing terrorism in their own country. Donald Trump has called for the need to build a wall along the Mexico and United States border, and making Mexico pay for the wall; this is one of the most popular with his Republican Party supporters. The Republican Party argues that the rules of the United States immigration should concentrate more on the working Americans and less on the status of the immigrants.

The building of the wall, according to this research, is not realistic, as it will ravage the economy of the United States. The border that is to be built is approximately 1900 miles. The cost would be $400 billion (Collinson and Diamond) . The wall will be a waste of government resources because it will require the presence of security officers who will mann the wall closely to protect it from illegal immigrants. A fence will not be the solution that will prevent a family or group of people who have the determination to enter into the United States of America. They would still climb over the wall. The wall would not be effective without officials manning it.

Also, there are other challenges that will be met in this quest to build the wall. There are tribal land, rivers, mountains, and private land. Also, a wall would not stop immigrants from crossing to the United States. The wall will not keep the border safe (Porter) . Although Trump has a genuine concern about the problems that have been caused by illegal immigrants, the solution that has been provided is not effective.

The undocumented immigrants to the United States have been an issue of the past. There are no longer illegal immigrants that are entering the United States, but rather there is now an increasing rate of legal immigrants (Collinson and Diamond) . There is an increasing clearance from the departures which continue to increase unabated. Trump seems not to be aware of the fact that there is decreased immigration of Mexicans to the United States. The illegal immigrants were at its peak in 2008, at 12 million, and dropped by one million in 2009. It has fluctuated between 11 and 12 million since then. This trend shows that the illegal immigrants have been stable at these figures for a long time.

There is also the issue of scaring off the illegal immigrants with the wall, so that instead of the illegal immigrants returning to Mexico, they stay in the United States, thus looking for legal documents to stay in the country. With the risks that they had to go through and the high pay for genuine entry, the illegal immigrants are no longer willing to go back to their country because of the frustrating process that they have had to undertake. The issue of raising a wall by the republican presidential candidate will not work in the United States.

Conclusion

The republicans and democrats have differed in different issues. In the 2016 presidential elections, one argument that is coming out clearly is that of immigration and the stance that each of the candidates has. Trump suggesting the building of a wall that will be funded by Mexico sounds unrealistic.
