I agree with Jennifer Jesse’s claims on experimental therapy. In my experience, experimental therapy focuses on determining how the patient is able to benefit from the therapeutic sessions. These expectations of experimental therapy are supported by Gestalt concept, which emphasizes that the cause of an issue is not as crucial as how a client is affected by the issue. Therefore, through experimental therapy a client is able to understand their emotional reaction towards an issue and how the issue affects their overall well-being. Therefore, to help a patient identify the underlying issue that affect them, a therapist must combine various forms of therapeutic approaches. This approach is evident in this week’s video where the therapist combines the Gestalt and Rogerian therapy methods to address the client’s issues. In my experience, combining various forms of therapeutic approaches can be beneficial for the client and the therapist as they are both able to navigate through the problems presented by the client and find a lasting solution.
Despite the experimental nature of therapy, therapists must create an atmosphere that is welcoming and non-judgmental for the client. This way the therapist can gain the trust of the client by creating a sense of security, empathy and compassion. As a therapist one is reminded to be compassionate to their patients at all times and not be quick to rebuke or condemn. Hebrew 33:13 says “But encourage one another day after day, as long as it is still called "Today," so that none of you will be hardened by the deceitfulness of sin.”
Delegate your assignment to our experts and they will do the rest.
The question I have from this week’s reading is: How can therapists remain objective when reviewing their client’s negative behavior without coming across as being judgmental, mean or erratic to the client?
