Unsafe sex is an issue that has affected people from different parts of the world. Indeed, there is a rising concern of people practicing unsafe sex and contracting ailments that are difficult to cure. Safe sex implies the practice of sex under protection to prevent contracting ailments that are transmitted through bodily fluids. The risk factors of contracting illnesses from unsafe sex can be classified in accordance with the populations that are most susceptible. Ideally, teenagers are the most affected by the practice of unsafe sex (Qiao, 2012). Adolescents who make up the teenage population like to experiment with their sexuality and such tendencies are detrimental to their health. In addition, the lack of adequate information makes unsafe sex dangerous for teenagers (Qiao, 2012). Moreover, the surging hormones in adolescents during this phase of development make it easier for them to fall victims of unsafe sex. Individuals with tendencies of substance abuse are also at risk of practicing unsafe sex (Qiao, 2012). For example, drunkenness can prompt an individual to practice unprotected sex due to lack of sound judgment.

Unsafe sex has many consequences, and it is thus essential to consider the outcomes of the practice. For example, unsafe sex is the leading cause of sexually transmitted infections, which can affect anyone. Particularly, STI’s are transmitted when teenagers have direct contact in their genitals (unprotected sex), and infectious viruses and bacteria are transmitted. For example, teenagers may contract gonorrhea, syphilis, HIV, and Chlamydia (Qiao, 2012). Since the teenagers may not be aware of the type of infections they contract from sex, their risk of mortality is high. In most cases, parents notice their children are ill after an infection has exceeded the mitigation levels. While some of the infections may be curable and their fatality can be reduced, other ailments like HIV are incurable, and can detriment the life of a teenager. Once contracted, one has to bear the burden of the disease for a lifetime (Qiao, 2012). Further, contracting HIV is a risk to other teenagers who have unsafe sex with the infected individual (Qiao, 2012).

Notably, unwanted pregnancies are a result of practicing unsafe sex (Qiao, 2012). Teenagers who get pregnant at tender ages are a burden to their guardians and themselves. Additionally, unplanned pregnancies derail the education of teenagers and their careers. Thus, it is essential for teenagers to consider protection before opting to practice unprotected sex. Teenagers who get pregnant are also at risk of getting pregnancy complications, which can lead to high mortality. In the current era, women are sensitized continuously to plan for their births and reduce the growth of population around the globe. Thus, practicing unsafe sex undermines the goals of controlling populations, and future progenies are at risk.

Sex is an issue that requires a prudent approach to ensure that high-risk populations have a chance to practice safe sex. Practically, safe sex should be taught in schools to ensure that awareness is spread and ignorance is eradicated. Teenagers fail to practice safe sex since they lack adequate knowledge about their sexuality and the consequences of unsafe sex. As such, teaching safe sex in classrooms can aid children in their decision making on matters pertaining to safe sex. On the other hand, parents should also consider instilling knowledge in their children, to protect them from becoming victims of unsafe sex.

The slut walk video gives essential information about rape. Notably, sexual violence has spread significantly, and women are the most affected by the ordeal. Moreover, children are also assaulted sexually and have to relive the nightmares for a significant part of their lives. Approximately 6306 children get raped annually in Texas. While such figures are alarming, both genders continue to blame each other on the rising cases of rape. I, therefore, feel that society has lost its values on sexuality, fostering the incidence of rape cases in the country. However, under a mutual approach, the issue can be mitigated.
