Most teachers always want to have an excellent relationship with their learners, but it is transparent that attaining the goal is not merely being warm, supportive, and caring. Teachers demonstrate care and support differently (Emmer & Evertson, 2016). For instance, Mr. Quin, a 6th-grade teacher, frequently takes lunch with learners, utilizes a suggestion box, makes birthday cards for them, and participates in community events. For Miss Vella, an 8th-grade teacher, she prefers to participate in school events and send notes for learners on areas they need to improve their behaviors. All these activities aim to create an excellent relationship with their students, but for the first case, he uses empathy while in the second case, she uses directive but warmly to gain a connection with students. Another strategy that Mr. Quin utilized is to get students’ feedback through the suggestion box. This aspect is a significant way of showing them that their opinions are valued. This idea will create a learning environment where students feel safe to air any views and freely ask questions. On the other hand, Miss Vella decided to demonstrate support by attending extracurricular events; attending school events may be a problematic task for many teachers because they are ever busy (Emmer & Evertson, 2016). However, it will also show learners that one cares enough about them to support what they do. It will make a significant difference in their lives, even if it is just showing up for a couple of minutes. Both teachers are unique in their way, and it shows that as long as one tries to do something, it will create a big difference in students’ lives.
