How does the newly designed space in the videos improve the teacher’s ability to manage the classroom?

The redesigned space in the classroom has more area as compared to the previous setup. The effect of space on the learning process is that it allows the teacher to move around more easily to reach all the learners. By so doing, this enhances the efficiency of the teacher in providing individualized attention to learners based on their ability to grasp concepts. The redesigned space also gives learners more space to move to and from the whiteboards more easily. Consequently, this improves time management and eliminates unnecessary barriers to learning.

The transformation of the learning space has exponentially increased the working area. Having whiteboards alongside the walls, within reach of the students provides them with adequate working space which improves collaborative learning experiences. As a result, the teacher has less workload and can dedicate adequate time to needy students. Following the transformation, the teacher is immersed in the class as opposed to occupying a peripheral location. The position enables the teacher to see all students, thereby making it possible to command the class effectively.

As you think about designing your own space, what design principles are transferable to your classroom?

Transferable design principles include matching the learning space with the teaching goals. The class should be organized such that it resonates with the objectives of teaching. Use of visual listening is also transferable because it emphasizes the use of images to deliver concepts as opposed to audio listening. Promotion of collaborative learning is also critical because it empowers learners to share the learning experience with greater efficiency. Besides, optimizing mobility within the space enables the teacher to reach out to all learners. Moreover, occupying a strategic position in the class is critical because it allows the teacher to command the class easily for easier class management.
