Good leaders often try to gauge themselves against the others and see how competitive they are. Self-assessment will help point out on weaknesses that can hinder them from excelling in their careers. This essay is a self-assessment of leadership skills and analysis of character traits that would ensure success as a business leader.
As a business leader, there are character traits that would ensure being successful in it. Enthusiasm is one of the most important traits that a business leader should have. This character will make the leader to be seen as active, expressive and energetic. Such leaders are optimistic, and open to change. A good leader has a sense of social boldness that makes them appear to be socially aggressive and generally thick-skinned. A good business leader need to be high in emotional stamina and are responsive to others. Additionally, good leaders should be emotionally stable with capability to tolerate frustration and stress (Zenger & Folkman, 2013). As a leader, one will be dealing with varying situations therefore psychological maturity will help to handle challenging situations. A leader who is decisive will delight in facing competition and overcoming obstacles. Having an assertive thinking style will ensure a leader is able to handle the others in a good way (Imd.org, 2016). Being intuitive will help a leader to accumulate a lot of knowledge and utilize it well for the business. The world today is changing and using ones intuition and trusting on own guts will help make great decisions. Other appealing characters for a business leader would be maturity, team orientation, high energy and compulsive (Owens, 2015).

On self-assessment, I can confidently say I have most of these character traits. I have enthusiasm because I am active and I like to handle tasks on my own even without being monitored. I am also optimistic and highly versatile and able to learn new ideas in a short duration. I am innovative, with an assertive thinking; I can spontaneously come up with idea to help solve challenging situations. I can also handle stress and withstand pressure therefore; I would consider myself to be psychologically mature (Owens, 2015). I am practical, logical and can comfortably handle any type of criticism. I have managed teams in different time of training in business and therefore I can comfortably create good team relation and foster team cohesiveness. In overall, I would consider myself to socially bold ad business minded. I have undergone extensive training on business and have learnt useful traits. Lastly, I am motivating: I can comfortably guide my team on achieving objectives and convincing them to follow the vision of the business.
It is evident no one is perfect there are character traits that I feel I need to improve on in order to excel as business leader. Key character traits that I would need to improve includes Compulsiveness and conscientiousness. Sometimes I feel I am too hospitable and not being very exacting in character. Sometimes I am too good and welcoming to my junior staff and they tend to take me as a not serious person. I am not as protective as a leader would need to. Therefore,these are some areas that would hinder me excelling as a business leader but they say leaders are made by circumstances and persistence. I am working towards improving on these traits and i am hoping to be an effective business leader in future.
