Personal reflection
As a teacher’s assistant, one faces different challenges in their work environment. It is imperative that one maintains their wellbeing by taking care of their health. Health is the first wealth. During the last school session, I developed a self-care plan to help me deal with some of the challenges at work and at a personal level. The self-care plan was to help me achieve different aspects in life, for instance, peace and serenity both at home and in the workplace. The plan is an intervention that can help many, including my colleagues and clients, to deal with various physical, psychological, and spiritual challenges. It allows one to identify their physical, mental, and spiritual needs (McDermott, n.d). The plan allowed me to identify critical persons in the support structure and the goals that I had anticipated to accomplish.

As the author of my plan, I had to integrate critical parts that I have been using to encourage students and my colleagues. I believed that developing the plan was the most effective way of promoting by wellness and preventing potential burnouts in my life. The plan allowed practicing what I believe, though sometimes it can be a huge challenge to honor some actions or modifications. I believe that most of our plans do not work one hundred percent, though we should attempt to ensure that they meet the minimum threshold. I realized that with the self-care plan, one needs to evaluate it on a daily basis to ensure that they are following their commitments. However, it is not always a rosy affair since other aspects work while others do not work at all. Having a self-care plan is great idea, for instance, spiritual wellness plan allows one to find and develop a connection with a higher being and the essence of life (Gilbert, 2016).
I have realized that all aspects of the body must be nourished, for instance, it is essential to nurture our bodies with food for physical wellness just as it is important to nurture our souls with meditations and quiet time. For example, through the plan, I understand that when we connect our inner spirits, we awaken our potential because we are revitalized and re-energized. However, self-care plans may not work if we focus on challenges rather than rise to the occasion. For instance, I found it difficult to navigate and actualize some aspects of my plan. While a majority of these aspects worked, some never worked (Mental Health America, n.d). For instance, achieving the eight-hour sleep time has been a huge challenge, especially when it comes to cutting time spent on the PC and television. Secondly, navigating through nourishing food has not worked since I find myself getting in situations where I have to consume junk food, especially fast foods. The other aspect that has been a challenge in the self-care plan is having personal reflection on a daily basis. I find it quite demanding and I should perhaps modify the duration.
Despite these scenarios, many aspects have worked in the self-care plan, albeit without any coercion. I believe that a self-care plan is the first step towards having a healthy, satisfying and energy-filled life. I know that many have self-care plans but they should remember that no one is coercing them and they do not need to have these plans if they do not intend to actualize them in broad proportion. The self-care plan is a demonstration for many student and colleagues that with a good hindsight and the need to have wellness, one can achieve the salient benefits of their health.
