Children with exceptionalities face a difficult time in school. Their capacity to understand things is limited and may require special care to improve their understanding. These exceptionalities may cause the child to develop aggressive behavior, as is in the case of Demetrios. For this reason, most children with these conditions receive personalized education to try to improve their behavior in school. In Demetrios' case, the teachers want him to participate in research in a local university, which may help reduce his aggressive behavior. Before deciding Demetrios, various ethical issues should be addressed. First, is the participation in the research program. Research may have positive and negative effects on the participants. The research intended for Demetrios to participate in has shown positive results in reducing aggression in children. However, the research has a negative side. Demetrios will have less freedom and will be segregated in a classroom, and his condition monitored. As much as this will reduce his aggressive behavior, socialization, which is important in children, will be unavailable. His parents are even afraid that he will become a laboratory rat.

The second issue is free and informed consent. Participating in any study requires participants to understand the possible risks that may come with the research. In this case, no one should be coerced to participate in the research if they are not interested. Demetrios is not in a good position to determine whether he would participate in the research, but his parents can make decisions for both their interests and Demetrios. Finally, there is a conflict of interest. This happens when the interests of the organization influence the responsibilities of research. In this case, the teachers want Demetrios’ parents to settle in just to get rid of Demetrios.

Demetrios' parents were not adequately addressed regarding the possible risks of participating in the project. This means that the researchers did not meet the requirements of informed consent. The school should have been transparent by disclosing all information, including the risks of participating in the research. The school should use a simple process by first highlighting the benefits of participating in the research and lastly mention the shortcomings. During this process, Demetrios' parents, who represent his interests, should inform him of the need to participate in the research, simply and understandably. They should persuade him and assure him that everything will be fine. Although he is a minor, his opinion should be considered.

Demetrios' parents and teachers should monitor his behavior before deciding to seclude him. Some less restrictive procedures include closely monitoring his behavior at school and when at home. This could consist of sitting in the front row where the teacher could easily monitor his behavior and interaction with others. Another procedure is requiring him to report to the teacher in every break. These measures would help control his behavior. The school staff had a negative attitude towards Demetrios. This behavior and frustration from the staff would have increased Demetrios' aggressiveness, anger, and stress. This would have resulted in higher aggressiveness, less socialization, stress, and deteriorating results. People tend to become more negative and toxic if they receive less support.

The educators provided a detailed explanation regarding the research program from the university. They described that participation in the research would reduce aggressive behavior in Demetrios. They also provided the causes of success in the research, which include the provision of quality services due to extra personnel and monitoring his daily progress. The behavior change program will be administered at the university. The environment will drastically change. Seclusion will reduce the number of people Demetrios interacts with and how often he sees his family members. This may negatively affect his response to treatment.

In this research, Demetrios should be involved. The study affects his personal life, and although he is a minor, his willingness to be involved in the project count. If he refused to participate in the research, not much could be done. He should be thoroughly convinced regarding the benefits of participating in this research. Participating in the research, where treatments are segregated, would have numerous benefits. One of them is that he would receive quality treatment due to extra personnel. His progress would be monitored by professionals, which would help provide feedback as compared to inclusive treatment. The only disadvantage of segregated treatment is the isolation where the change in the environment, such as the failure to see his family, increases stress. The best decision for the interest of Demetrios, his parents, and teachers would be to participate in the program.
