Several factors motivate individuals to pursue higher education. Self-actualization and the desire to meet vital physiological needs significantly influence the need to pursue a college degree. Several factors motivated me to enroll for a college degree.
The most significant factor that led to my enrollment for a college degree was my desire for personal growth. I had the desire to learn and reach my academic potential, as I believed that I could achieve greater academic excellence. This motivated me to pursue a college degree, as it would have a significant impact on my personal growth. The second motivation factor was the increased earnings that are linked to a college degree. The United States economy has, over the years, shifted from a manufacturing economy to a service-based economy (Knutsen, 2011). The service providers are educated individuals, and they tend to earn more than those who work in the manufacturing sector. The third motivation was the fact that with a college degree, I would be more competitive in the job market. This means that I would not take less time to get a job as most employers are looking for highly skilled personnel to hire. I would also get a better job and have better chances of promotion.

The motivation factors might change over time as continue with my college education. For instance, the primary motivating factor that led me to enroll for a college degree was the desire for personal growth. However, the current demands in the economy and the job market require that I have the competency skills that will guarantee me a job after college. This means that my primary motivation factor may shift from that of personal development to acquiring the necessary skills to boost my employability.
The desire to learn and reach my academic potential is a crucial intrinsic motivation factor that will keep me motivated to finish my college degree (Knutsen, 2011). This is because since my childhood, I have always desired to be crowned with a college degree, and I believe I can achieve this goal. Secondly, the need to become competitive enough in the job market, and the desire to have considerable earnings when I get a job, are some of the extrinsic factors that will keep me motivated to complete my college degree.
Cultural values play a significant role in motivating academic excellence. For instance, my cultural background motivates me to push towards academic excellence (Karaman, & Watson, 2017). Those individuals who have acquired a college degree are held in high esteem in society, and this encourages academic achievement. For this reason, I will push hard until I complete my college degree.
