SmartPaddle is one of the latest sports tech innovations that tracks forces when swimming. SmartPaddle is a swimming wearable tracker device developed by a Finland based tech company Trainesense. This technology piece comprises sensors that are worn on the left and right palms of a swimmer. The device records the force applied by a swimmer and the resulting speed, trajectory, and hands orientation.

SmartPaddle has various unique features that make it instrumental in helping swimmers and their coaches. First, the device is used as a regular stopwatch, making it easy to use (Trainesense, 2019). It starts immediately a swimmer starts swimming. Additionally, the device recognizes strokes immediately after swimming starts. This enables the device to record the force after swimming starts and stops when there is no stroke. Another unique feature of this device is its integration with a mobile application. The sensors are connected to a mobile device with a SmartPaddle App, thereby pairing the athlete to the application. Data obtained by the sensor is displayed on the application, allowing an individual, such as the coach, to track the athlete's progress (Trainesense, 2019). The third feature is the ability of the device to store information in the digital format. This information could be used later for comparison and analyses, which could help improve the athlete's performance.

SmartPaddle is designed to measure various parameters of the swimmer. First, the device measures traditional swimming parameters such as time, stroke, stroke rate, stroke count. These measures help a swimmer to understand how fast he/she takes and the number of strokes made (Trainesense, 2019). Secondly, the device measures the swimmer’s force profile. The force profile enables the swimmer to understand how they maintain the hold on the water. Also, SmartPaddle measures the speed of the swimmer’s hands. The hand speed helps the swimmer and the coaches to identify the amount of effort that the swimmer uses. In addition, the device measures the force direction and propulsion (Trainesense, 2019). Measurement of the swimmer's force direction and propulsion helps them to understand their ability to control their movement at a certain speed. Finally, the device also identifies the 3D path of the swimmer's hands. The 3D measure helps identify the path taken by a swimmer's hand after every stroke. These measures are important in ensuring that the swimmer improves their performance.

Using SmartPaddle is very beneficial to the organization; it helps in data analytics and increasing profitability. Considering that Trainesense Ltd. is an IT company specializing in data analytics, SmartPaddle will help the company provide accurate swimming statistics. The device collects swimming statistics and stores the data for analysis later. The company can best achieve its objectives (data analytics) using this device. Additionally, SmartPaddle is helping the organization to improve the wellbeing of athletes. By monitoring and analyzing athletes' performance, the company reaches many individuals, improving their knowledge about swimming. Additionally, the popularity of this device has helped the organization improve its profit-making. The more the swimmers using the device, the higher the profit that the organization makes.

This innovation affects various departments, especially physical fitness, and data analytics. SmartPaddle collects swimming statistics in real-time and stores the data for comparison and analysis. This data is instrumental in improving the swimmer's performance. First, statistics such as stroke rate and time could help the swimmer identify their weaknesses and devise techniques to help them. In data analytics, the device could be used to gather important data about swimmers, such as swimming time, stroke rate, and other related statistics. This information could be used by swimmers worldwide by comparing themselves with top swimmers and identifying areas to improve themselves.
