The first article written by Shea Bennett is about the influence of social media in the pre-employment screening of applicants. In this article, Bennett starts off by posing a question to employers asking them whether they use social media to screen candidates to job vacancies in their organizations. He then proceeds by urging the ones who do not use social media to consider adopting it because it is worthwhile growing trend in the corporate world. According to Bennett (2014), employers who use social media for screening applicants find it quite useful in terms giving them influential information for the process of hiring workers.
The second article written by Roni Jacobson is about the habit of employers to use Facebook in screening candidates to job vacancies. Jacobson (2014) paints a negative picture of the whole practice of using Facebook to snoop on candidates during the screening process. He holds the view that it is a habit, which may backfire on many employers. Jacobson (2014) sensationally describes this habit as illegal since it amounts to invasion of people’s privacy without their permission. He terms it pervasive and questionable.

Should employers use social media?
Employers should not use social media as a source of influential information applicable in the screening of candidates. In this age of widespread social media use, what people post and do on their timelines does not paint the real picture of what they really are or their nature. It is common to find people post photos while in posh apartments and luxurious cars, but which do not belong to them. Therefore, social media will not give an employer the true picture of a candidate under screening.
Limits to what employers should be allowed to access
Yes, there are limits to what an employer can be allowed access regarding the postings of candidates on their social media accounts. For instance, employers should not be allowed to view the private conversations and messages of the candidates in the inbox on social media.
