The play Blue/Orange addresses various social problems that modern society tend to face. One of the main themes in the play is racism. It is noted that one of the main characters believe that he is the son of a dictator Idi Amin. The main aim as to why he kept referring himself to that person was for him to gain favor before other people. It is noted that during that period, most of the African-Americans were discriminated because of their color. In that way, people had to look for other alternatives for them to be accepted. One of the common questions that anyone would ask after watching that play is the issues relating to the main character indicating that he is the son of the most hated person on earth. Idi Amin is a person who is believed to have killed so many innocent people. This means that any person related to him will automatically be hated or rejected by the community.

The theatre was well organized to mark various scenes and themes portrayed by the characters. For example, the use of different colors indicated the mood of the scenes that were showcased. When referring to the theme of racism and other social problems, a dark color was used in the background. It created a sad mood for the play as even the audience could relate to the struggles of the people. On various occasion, the main character was believed to have mental illness due to his claims. The outfits of the characters also were unique which presented their traits. For example, one of the characters was believed to have mental illness was seen dressed in dull colored clothes.
