Before the advent of technology, the social roles of women was limited because they were expected to stay at home and do house chores as men went out to work. Women were considered to be inferior to men and had no knowledge of advancing or initiating any new idea in the society. Since women had little knowledge, they were not allowed to take part in any social activity.
However, technology has greatly transformed the world by introducing new ways of doing things due to new innovations. For this reason, women have embraced technology and have begun to actively take part in activities that were initially a preserve for men (Kenny, O’Donnell M., 2017). First, technology has empowered women to take the role of leadership in the society. The connectedness of the internet has sped up the spread of information and new ideas that have enlightened women on their rights and the need to take up leadership roles. Several organizations with online presence have worked to support women financially and morally in their effort of liberation from the chauvinistic society (Kenny, O’Donnell M., 2017). They have also used social networks to raise their voices concerning their thoughts and opinions about matters of interest affecting the society.

Technology has also enabled women to be innovative just like their male counterparts. They then use such innovations to initiate projects in the society and in the process bring social and communal development. Women use their technological innovations and projects in the society to raise their voice and fight for their space (Wallace, 2014). In the process, the empowered women in turn fight for the rights of women and other vulnerable groups in the society such as youths and children.
Conclusion
The role of technology as relates to the social roles of women can never be underestimated. Technology has changed the perception of the society concerning the roles of women in the society. Women are currently taking up leadership roles and initiating projects in the society because technology has brought about education and equal access to information.
