Inclusivity and an open mindset are important tools in the modern world, especially in careers such as social work that bring one into contact with individuals from various backgrounds and groups. I hope that I will inculcate integrity, compassion, passion, love, among others, into my work.
There are several ways in which I hope to use to make sure I become a social worker who brings light, honor and promotes dignity in my social work. One of the ways is creating a culture of inclusivity for myself in everything I do. I could achieve this by trying to be friendly and work on my social skills to ensure I form relationships with individuals of different backgrounds. Such friendships would give me a direct view of the challenges that different people face and help me learn to accept everyone the way they are. Acceptance of different classes of people would ensure that I would fight for them and serve them to the best of my abilities regardless of the politics, social biases, or attitudes that would persist in the community against any class of individuals. Understanding the challenges that different people face also makes it easier to empathize with them and show them compassion, leading to treating everyone with dignity.

I also plan to keep reading about different factors and issues that affect social work, such as law, ethics, religious beliefs, among others. A keen understanding of these various factors makes one anticipate the challenges ahead in social work and how to solve them. I would like to pick a short course or attend lectures and workshops on such issues, especially human rights. The intersection of human rights with various disciplines encourages one by showing them the importance of social work and reminds them of the end goal of all the effort employed; better human lives. Learning about human rights will help me make sure I afford everyone basic human rights such as dignity, equality, justice, among others, therefore, ensuring I never lose track of how my work affects others. Self-improvement, growth, and professional development will be fundamental ways to set my objectives and evaluate my competence and success in my work.
Another method of achieving success in social work for all groups in society is through volunteerism and involvement with grassroots organizations. One of the main objectives of social work is to give a voice to the voiceless, advocate for marginalized groups, and protect human rights. One of the best ways of doing this is by volunteering in worthy causes that champion for rights of minorities and other social issues. Getting personally involved is one of the most significant ways of serving humanity. It also makes one set all other motivators aside since the journey in changing social policies is not easy, and therefore, one only succeeds if their heart is fully set on the accomplishment. Such strives make one a better person and give them the confidence to do what is right. Communal work and local grassroots organizations are a perfect way to get started and contribute to change. They present one with an opportunity to fight for something precious to them and help grow their character. When translated to my work, the values and lessons gained from such experiences will make me a better human and subsequently a better social worker.
There are many ways to improve their professionalism and ensure that their work has tangible results within their community or nation. I believe each person has their own ways that are unique to them depending on their objectives, personality, and other personal characteristics. I believe upholding my National Association of Social Workers Code of ethics, combined with communal involvement, personal growth, professional development, and inter-disciplinary approach, will make me the best social worker I can be and help meet my objectives as well as those expected from me by others.
