The diversity of unions has increased over the years. Unions today are now composed of a greater number of women, Hispanics, Asian Pacific Americans, and more educated workers. The gap between the rates of membership has been narrowing from the year 1983 which was at 24.7 percent for men and 14.6 percent for women.
