The topic in this study is about humiliation to mental conditions that arise among people of different colors. Such stigma may result in mental conditions like depression, anxiety, or one committing suicide due to dishonor a person may feel because of their color. Over the past decade, such incidences have been reported in many states in the United States and other parts of the world. Due to humiliation people of different colors, most victims have lost their lives while some have experienced mental illness ( The National Council for Behavioral Health, 2019) . Since the issue of stigma about mental illness among people of color directly affects many people globally, it is imperative to study this topic because it helps mental health nursing find possible ways of how mental illness can be addressed. 

Significance of the Topic 

Socioeconomic challenges are among the leading causes of high risk for poor mental health, leading to stigma among many people of color all over the world. For example, some African American communities in the United States have different stories of perseverance and resilience, which occur due to socioeconomic challenges they face. These challenges, in most instances, result in mental illness ( NCBH, 2019) . However, the former is rare among Native Americans and Latin Americans because they often face such socioeconomic challenges. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness, at least one among five African Americans in the U.S. yearly experience mental illness. Therefore, this topic is essential because it can help identify possible ways of eliminating humiliation among people of color to reduce mental illness cases.

Summary of the Article 

This article talks about humiliation and dishonor about mental illness among people of color. According to the article, taboo in most communities is the primary cause of mental illness that affects people of color globally. The article adds that mental illness varies from depression, anxiety, and suicide. These mental issues are caused by socioeconomic challenges faced by communities of color ( The National Council for Behavioral Health, 2019) . According to the author of this article, African Americas are among people of color who experience mental illness, which arises from stigma. The article explains that the African American communities are mainly affected by the mindset of perseverance and resilience due to slavery they receive from people of other colors. In such a mindset, many people who embrace such beliefs are mentally ill, leading to mental illness. According to the United States Department of Health and Human Services Office of Minority Health, approximately 20 % of African Americans are likely to report mental distress compared to Whites ( The National Council for Behavioral Health, 2019) . However, only a few affected African Americans seeking medical intervention due to mental illness, even though healthcare professionals are always ready and willing to help them.

The information from this article is vital because it helps understand the primary causes of mental illness among people of color. The information can be used to teach people of color how to overcome humiliation or dishonor, which may result in mental illness. According to this article, most mental illness among African Americans is caused by socioeconomic issues and challenges ( Goodwill & Zhou, 2020) . The information can be used to teach people of color how to overcome such socioeconomic challenges through hard work and determination to avoid desperation and slavery. For example, when people of color, particularly African Americans, learn how to overcome humiliation through believing in themselves and working hard to meet their needs, they will not experience socioeconomic challenges. 

Strengths and Weakness of the Article 

Strengths are facts and ideas discussed in the article that help the reader understand and capture the author's information. First, the article discussed the major causes of mental illness among people of color and how they are affected ( Goodwill & Zhou, 2020) . The information can help the audience to learn how to avoid causes of mental illness stated in the article to stay healthy. 

Secondly, the article gives specific examples of the affected groups and statistics on how mental illness incidences have been reported in the United States ( Jaiswal et al., 2020) . The information is vital because it can be used to make projections and find possible ways of handling such mental issues. 

Weakness covers essential information about the topic of study by not being captured or discussed in the article. The main weakness of this study is that it does not recommend appropriate methods that can be used to solve dishonor and mental issues among people of color.

In the United States, African Americans are the most affected group due to socioeconomic challenges amongst them. Therefore, it is vital to find ways to eliminate such mental issues to promote equality among people of different colors.
