In everyday life, we are faced with situations which demand us to choose one path and leave the others. Our lives are guided by the decisions we make every day. In some instances, the decisions are hard and often pose a challenge in making a good choice. Sometimes we end up making bad decisions due to lack of sufficient knowledge or mere ignorance of the consequences of our decisions. Subsequently, we bear these consequences and learn from the mistakes that we made in coming up with the decision. In others, the decisions we make are irreversible. This calls for utmost precision before arriving at a decision to avoid future regrets.

One of the toughest decisions that I’ve had to make is my career path. Choosing a career is one of the toughest decisions facing young people across the world. Young people are faced with a multitude of careers to choose from, which tends to create their confusion in the best career choice to make. My situation is not unique in any way. While growing up, I have interacted with many different careers. I have met doctors, lawyers, policemen, among many other careers. Each of the people that I interacted with from each type of career offered their opinion as to why that career is the best. Their lives also depicted success and job satisfaction. My parents also gave their input on the type of career I should choose. This created confusion on the best choice to make. However, regardless of the advice given, I knew that the decision rests with me. The following paragraphs describe the factors considered in arriving at my decision.

The first step was identifying my goal. The goal of every human being is to lead a successful life. That has been my goal too. Having identified my goal, I embarked on gathering information on the different career choices at my disposal. This included gathering information on the expertise and education required to achieve each of the careers. This was meant to be a guide to in my education and knowledge acquiring. Understanding the knowledge requirements helps in identifying the areas of coverage required for success to be achieved.

The third step in making my decision was choosing the best career choice that matched my capabilities and personal interest. Having identified my goals, matching them to the right career is the final goal of the career choice process. This involves seeking the right sources of knowledge and pursuing the knowledge. In this step, I considered my interests, and the availability of resources to finance my pursuit of education. This led to choosing a career choice that best suits my capabilities and thereby guided my education line. Arriving at my decision was tough, but the guidelines and personal interests guided me to a decision that will not lead to regrets in the future.

Having gone through problem-solving and decision-making training, I find that my decision-making strategies fall in line with the guidelines provided in the course. The course elaborates the first strategy as understanding the goal. Once the goal has been clearly understood, it provides a guideline that will lead to the achievement of this goal. Most complex decisions are therefore best handled once the goal has been identified. A clear analysis of the mechanisms required to achieve this goal is then established based on the options available.
