The first amendment rights in the United States Constitution states that each and every person has every right to exercise the freedom of speech and expression. Each person has the right to express these freedoms anywhere be it in a school or in their religion. The students at Lincoln Park walked out of class since they were upset as their veteran teachers had been fired.AS the school it would be very appropriate to expel the students if they fail to go back to class. The students may have their constitutional rights to free expression and freedom. However their difference in opinions can easily lead to violence.

The school environment is usually entitled to special rights. This does not mean that the when students or the teachers leave their constitutional rights behind when they enter the school gate. They still have their freedom of expression and speech intact. Though the principalof the school had the mandate to maintain order at school, there is no clear evidence that the students had in any way collided with the school activities or any violent activity, they expressed themselves passively.

The principles however did a reasonable thing by suspending the students as they feared that the students who walked out of class would disturb the students. The principle feared that the difference in opinion of the students would lead to violence or disturbance. The principle should however understand that the fear of disturbance is not enough for the student’s right of expression and speech to be apprehended (Chemerinsky, E. (1999.)
