It remains doubtless that Welch Middle School is a premier educational and athletic institution. Equally doubtless is the fact that this institution has numerous challenges and opportunities that must be acknowledged to ensure a sustainable grasp of its prestigious tag. Critically, this can only be achieved by addressing the weaknesses that plague the management of the school at the departmental level (Rihal, 2017). Marginal communal and staff support feature prominently as administrative weaknesses. Parental involvement is critical to the success of middle school students, likewise, students benefit academically when teachers are amicable towards each other and the school’s administration. Accordingly, it is necessary that these weaknesses be addressed primarily because both have a significant and currently detrimental effect on student performance.

Tapor, Keane, Shelton & Calkins, (2010) note that parental, and by extension, communal involvement is significant in improving student performance. Not only will this school benefit from the reinforced sense of ownership from the community, but it will also translate into a better school environment overall. But, this can be successful only when it based on an effective parental engagement approach, for which the most effective method requires hosting more parent/community focused activities. Here, the object is either to build relationships between parents and the faculty members or an enhancement of existing relationships with the aim of improving student learning outcomes. Once parental involvement has improved, as measured through student academic performance, parental attendance of school-based activities and the nature of relationships between parents and faculty, can the focus shift to the community. Notably, the approach of school-based community-centric activities equally applies to enhance community involvement in school activities. An improved sense of communal ownership translates to support during academic and athletic competitions as well as the allocation of resources towards school initiatives and programs. Accordingly, the responsibility for actualizing this approach falls on the administrative director and should be completed within 3 years.

Conflicts are inevitable in any organization and negatively impact organizational objectives (Eunson, 2012). Welch Middle School is not exempt from this norm hence the effects of changes to conflict management approaches must be considered carefully. For instance, recent policy changes excluded the school’s administration from mediating in matters considered as personal conflicts among the teaching faculty. Considering the interdependent environment present in most learning institutions, a conflict resolution approach of non-interference damages the very nature of an effective learning environment. Therefore, repealing the current policy approach and replacing with one that considers the interests of teachers, and students is required.

Again, the burden of responsibility rests with the administrative director of the school and immediate action is necessary to restore morale among faculty members and improve learning outcomes for students (Rihal, 2017). Significantly, given the importance of conflict resolution approaches in an educational setting, it is vital that an effective policy approach is created (Eunson, 2012). Therefore, the school can revert to the previous policy before finding a more appropriate approach. Addressing environmental and policy-related challenges is vital to improving student learning outcomes. Improvements in this context create a secure and open environment where not only teachers but also students feel secure in their own persons. Such a setting is the basis for the students and administration to tackle the protracted organizational weakness of bullying. Considering its effects, an effective approach to bullying necessitates parental and communal involvement (Crist, 2017).

Welch Middle School does have an exemplary athletic department that could also benefit from more communal engagement. It is doubtless that the school has allocated resources to its continued athletic success, but more can be achieved by engaging with the community on athletics. Succinctly, the administration must develop policy approaches that effectively address parental/communal participation and conflict management among its teachers.
