Even though business contracts are considered to be binding, they can only be effective in an ethical environment where all the parties are committed to fulfilling the terms that were agreed upon during the negotiation process (Waters, 2003). The topic was exciting because it was an eye-opener on the issues which ensure that the supply chain negotiations are ethical. The factors include honesty which in many cases is the best policy. If one party is not honest, then there will be negative effects on future negotiations. Honesty often builds a strong bond between parties which are involved in the negotiation. The next factor that ensures that negotiations are ethical is when the parties to the contract keep their words. It is often easy to make promises but can be hard to make follow-ups. In some cases, business people are tempted to make promises that they can clearly not keep (Waters, 2008). It is vital to avoid such promises and try as much as possible to meet the promise that was made. The last factor that ensures that there is an ethical negotiation is having more than one option. In this case, things may not go as planned and the other party to the contract may not like what is being offered. Therefore, businesspeople need to have more than one option so that both parties to the contract can achieve their goals. The process involves bringing in ethical options during the negotiation process so as to settle on the best option (Garrett, 2005).

During this course, participating in the discussion was a big help in helping me to understand the topics. More specifically, participating in discussions increased my level of interest in the subject matter because I was engaged in the classroom. It helped in maintaining my focus on the course while in class which then increased my level of understanding. Participating in discussions also encouraged me to be engaged in class in terms of asking questions when I felt that I had not understood an issue. In the process, I was highly motivated to learn more about the subject matter to increase my level of understanding. The strategy also encouraged dialogue between and among the students in class because I could ask another student’s way of understanding things which in some cases was simpler for me. From the process, it is evident that everything has become clear for me.
Other approaches that could result in valuable information in class include encouraging more research from sources that are outside the course material. The process would have helped in determining what other authors think about the subject matter and any additional information that they have on the subject matter.
In conclusion, in the process, it is evident that ethical negotiation has had an impact on me during the course because I think that there cannot be a successful contract when ethics is not considered. I enjoyed the topic and find it helpful in my future as a business person. I now understand the importance of simple things such as being honest, trustworthy and keeping promises. The factors do not only determine the success of contracts in the future but also ensures that businesses do not find themselves in legal issues because of the fact that they breached a contract by behaving unethically.
