Use of subject-specific pedagogical skills for multiple/single subject teaching assignments

I observed the use of illustrations to guide the students on what topics they were to tackle during the lesson. The video gives a clear indication of the efficient use of instructive skills by the teacher when preparing the students for what they are learning. The teacher gave the students room to discuss among themselves the topics at hand and later gave them an assessment to see the progress of each child in regards to the topic.

Monitoring student learning during instruction/student self-monitoring

The teachers were all interactive often asking the students questions about the subject of the lesson. All the teachers made use of several monitoring methods like questioning, giving the students quizzes to see what the students learnt during the lesson. The teachers gave the students questions and later went through the student's papers tackling the areas that most of them had a problem answering.

Interpretation and use of assessments

In the 6 th grade close reading of informational text I observed the teacher involving the students in handling the topic by allowing them to read the information out loud for the whole class. The teacher engages the students throughout the lesson by asking questions and selecting volunteers to answer questions. During the assessment, the teacher also moves around the class observing what the students are doing and guiding them where necessary.

Making content (general curriculum) accessible

The teachers make sure they inform the students on how to access the learning materials they use, either through use of multiple means of representation or through adopting several methods of dispensing and incorporating knowledge. The students also gather information through participation in class which keeps them in line and motivated.

Student Engagement

I observed that the teacher was using a power point presentation which was convenient and effective because every student can see. The other was the use of questions in on a piece of paper where the teacher goes through the questions with the students and each one of the answers according to what they understand. This process ensures full concentration and participation of every student.

Developmentally appropriate teaching practices

In this video during the 7 th grade ELA the use of educational aids like a projector, questionnaires is totally appropriate for the 7 th graders, therefore, it's developmentally appropriate. The teacher also gives out assignments during the lesson as a way of challenging the students to do better and also keep them highly motivated.

Culturally and linguistically responsive pedagogical practices

Socially and linguistically receptive educational practices remain the requirement of the present American classroom these days. The numerous populations of schoolchildren in the classroom depict the use of learning resources that validates different proficiencies, values and dialects of the students. This rehearsal also includes connecting informative arguments with diverse social concepts.

Content comprehensible for students with cultural, linguistic and exceptional learning needs

The teacher ensures the material they use in class is understandable for all students by making sure that it is in line with all the students’ linguistic and cultural differences and needs. This is made possible by providing the students with several means of illustration like ways of obtaining, processing and assimilating information.

Instructional Planning

Instructional planning is where a teacher makes a simple lesson plan that involves breaking down the lesson in small bits so as to ensure that each student is at per with teacher during the lesson.

Use of instructional time

The utilization of in structural time also acts as a motivator for the students because they can freely participate in the lesson.

Social environment/behavior management

Students tend to zone out in class, or at times some of them can act out, social environment or behavior management provides guidelines on how to handle indiscipline. The teacher can use non-verbal clues to capture the attention of students and also help them participate and learn.

Professional, legal and ethical obligations

Teachers must act professionally when handling students paying attention to all legal and ethical requirements that bind them in the professions. This ensures that act professionally and ethically when handling students.

Professional growth/Collaboration skills

I observed that most of the teachers have excellent collaboration skills that help their professional growth.

Use of technology/student use of technology

The use of smart boards and projectors to make note readable to all students is an intelligent way of using technology. The students get to participate fully, and they are more motivated to learn because they can visualize and fully grasp the concept during lessons.
