Teamwork is one of the factors to success considered by managers in the contemporary workplace. Managers will always to have their juniors and rest of the workforce-oriented to loyalty and cohesion in the execution of duties. Team cohesion is defined as a connection that attracts people towards membership in given groups and to resist separation from those groups. Just as it is critical for managers in the real workplace, the film Captain America Civil War , explains that group cohesion is a critical factor in other fields. This work explores the importance of team cohesion as depicted in the movie. As expected, the paper reports that proper communication among the team members is one of the greatest aides to the development of proper team cohesiveness. Teams that manage effective communication are more cohesive than those do not.
The film shows that teams can be more cohesive when their members are more communicators that are effective ( Aty, 2016 ). For example, at the opening scenes of the film, Captain America, and his team manages to defeat Brock Rumlow primarily because of proper communication skills. For instance, while Captain America and his team spend time to strategize the attack, Rumlow and his team only show up to steal the bioweapon from a laboratory in Lagos without much consideration about the levels of security at the scene. Even when Rumlow is subdued later, the film also indicated some levels of team plan on his side. For example, the soldiers only marched into the laboratory compound after a garbage truck had broken open the gates. The fight that ensues later still shows the strength of team cohesiveness. For example, Captain America’s team communicates all through the fierce fight, helping each other to overcome the resistance of Rumlow and his soldiers.

The film depicts that team cohesion is easier to achieve when teams believe in a common factor such as it was the case of Captain America’s team that wanted to protect humanity as opposed to the selfish intents of Rumlow. According to the film, it takes more time to assemble more cohesive teams primarily on the conceptualization that such teams always require more time to understand the values of their leader. Captain American and his team believe that they have a bigger task to protect humanity than the rest of the people. For this reason, the team members have worked together for a long time, which is why they are well-known to each other. The coordination among the team members in each of their operations always attains them success.
The film also indicates that team cohesion is reliant on effective management. For example, managers are always required to make decisions that they must stand by and defend. Often, when the decisions made represent the ideas of the whole team, they are likely to be acceptable. However, a conflict can result when the manager does not make decisions following the consultation of the team members. Captain America Civil War depicts this concept clearly when the original team is forced to split following a conflict in ideologies of their co-principles. One of the managers, Iron Man, believes that a governmental body such as the UN should control their activities because they were almost running out of control. On the contrary, Captain America does not support this idea because he felt that being controlled by a governmental body would mean manipulation in the future. This contradiction happened amid reports that the US Secretary of State, Thaddeus Rose, had informed the original team about the move by the UN to regulate activities of the Avengers ( Aty, 2016 ). This conflict marked the splitting of the original team, each person choosing on which side they would support. Therefore, it meant that the efforts of the original team were compromised a great deal.
According to the movie, a cohesive team benefits from the different skills and talents of the individual members. For example, the original Avengers team was greatly effective since each of the members had a different skill that would benefit the rest when they looked like they had run out of options during the confrontation. For example, Captain America, who appears to the most powerful member of the team needed help from the Black Widow to reach the third flow of the laboratory just in time to intercept Rumlow and his team. In fact, the entire film is centered on how much the characters complemented each other while on missions. The splitting of the characters was the start of tactical incompetence in each of the team. As a result, teams risked their lives, such as when Barnes was manipulated by Helmut Zemo later on in the film. Therefore, the film taunts the need for managers to have excellent managerial skills if they are get the best out of their members.
In conclusion, cohesive teams are founded on a common belief among its team members coupled by proper management. The film reports that managers have to effective communicators if they are to attain and sustain cohesion among their teams. In this case, communicating effectively will always ensure that managers coordinate the activities of the team, helping team members to complement each other. The film also depicts the challenges that contemporary managers are likely to face when they manage more culturally diverse teams. For instance, the managers must have critical decision-making skills for them to manage culturally diverse teams.
