For this case study, I will use Zoe as the character in addressing the neurotic needs. In a family of three in the sitcom, Blackish, she is the first born. Her character can be described as somewhat arrogant and self-confidence. In this family, Zoe and second born have no large difference in terms of years. Although, they are of different genders and thus, widening the gap. After Zoe and second, there are two twins who seem to be the joy of the family and especially, to the parents.
Zoe, she is a renowned celebrity in her school and everyone wants to befriend her. However, she appears to be a little bit snob and especially to the less popular individuals not excluding her brother. The later sibling appears to be antisocial. Zoe is smart and hardworking in school although she pretends to be achieving everything effortlessly. From afar look, she is a beautiful teenager but concentrates more on applying to make ups on her face. Sometimes she is caught in the compromising situation. For instance, there is a time she had borrowed her mother’s car and drove without a driving license since she was a minor. And when caught in a confrontation, Zoe got furious and locked herself in a quiet room.

Her life character can be summarized with two personality theories which include Karen's theory of personality and Adler's theory of birth. Being raised among many, Zoe has learned to be confident, earning respect, and defending herself. Furthermore, it is quick to note her neurotic need for attention ( Schultz and Schultz, 2016) . As Adler explains in his personality theory, this need results from her position in the family. It is clear she did not enjoy the family's attention as the only child as her brother was born too soon after her. It is for this reason she longs for attention. This is evidence of her activities such as driving as minor and using make-up to make her conspicuous. As explained by Karen's neurosis study on the coping mechanism, confrontation makes her get aggressive. She focusses on being smart in schools to prove herself as a trailblazer to her parents and others.
In her nature, she like associate with popular people and dislike being around failures in the society. As she lacked attention at her childhood, she is basically snob. Notably, females value attention more than males ( Ewen and Ewen, 2014) . This may also be the reason why she suffers from neurosis.
