The analysis of the degree of cybersecurity guaranteed by the The University of Massachusetts Boston

  The advancement in technology has not only made life more efficient but has also resulted in issues of security especially for internet users. An area of concern that stands out for users of this technology is cybersecurity. In many instances, internet users are faced by issues of cybersecurity and in severe cases, their well-being is threatened. The University of Massachusetts Boston is not exempt from such issues as many if not all of its operations are carried out through the internet. This puts the well-being of students, staff and the entire university at risk including the access to personal information by third parties. This makes it crucial to analyze the degree of cybersecurity guaranteed by the university to help identify the level to which its members are protected. 

The IT Security Office at the university reports that students are continually receiving cyber threats due to the ease with which third parties can access the UMass system (I.T Security Office, 2020). It is an indication that the system is vulnerable to attacks and students are at increased risk of becoming victims of cyber-attacks. The university has made some effort in the provision of cybersecurity for students. It has the ISO cybersecurity newsletter in place to help provide information to students concerning impending cybersecurity issues (I.T Security Office, 2020). Even with this strategy in place many students do not know how to access the newsletter, making it ineffective to a great extent. It is crucial for students to be aware that they have this resource at their disposal to help promote cybersecurity. Nonetheless, one may conclude that such an effort by the university may not be effective enough in ensuring cybersecurity for students. There is need for more stringent measures and intruders are adopting more sophisticated ways of compromising systems like those used by the university to access personal information. There is need for research into more options available for the school especially those that are at par with the rapidly changing trends in technology.
