Many people tend to easily dismiss the attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) as an occurrence of the modern life. Children are born with different abilities and capabilities. Thus there is a need to be careful how one chooses the approach to deal with each of them. Most people living in the modern workplace are exposed to different tones of situations and conditions that may deprive them of the necessary attention that they may require so much for their normal growth and development (Foley, 2018). For a majority of the young ones growing up in the modern society, they are exposed to various aspects of technology and social conditions that may make them to develop into totally different and unique personality from hat their parents of the society anticipated. 

While many researchers have come up to discuss the arising cases f the ADHD and its continued occurrence in the modern generation, it is true to say that this condition is not new. In any case, the first instances of the ADHD conditions were reported in 1763 by the famous Sir Arthur Crichton in the year 1763 (Foley, 2018). The scientist observed that several noises such as the barking of dogs or the scolding of the ladies were able to distract the patients. These patients, as Crichton observed were affected by the degree of their anger and increased insanity (Dewar, 2017). True to such discoveries, the modern cases of ADHD have seen the increased prevalence of the ADHD conditions worldwide.

Several types of research have sought to investigate the modern prevalence of the ADHD condition among the youths who have instead been labeled in the society. The adolescent youths have suffered massive instances of misjudgment and misunderstanding on the community owing to the great misunderstanding that exists in the society surrounding these youths. According to Foley (2018), the youths are tagged as irresponsible, rush, and undisciplined throughout the process of growing up. Such labels may follow up the teenagers through their growth period affecting their education life. The implications of such misunderstanding may affect the youths all the way to their adult life. This paper will thus focus on the examinations of various sources that have dealt with the investigation and the unearthing of the various theories concerning the ADHD (Dewar, 2017). The article by Denise Foley on “Growing up with ADHD” provides an insightful examination and the in-depth examination of the various fallacies that have emerged concerning the understanding and the different reactions to the cases of the ADHD by the society (Foley, 2018). This paper will also discuss the article by Gwen Dewar on “ADHD in children: What parents need to know about attention and hyperactivity problems.” With the rising cases of misdiagnosis of the children in the adolescent age and wrongful labeling of their conditions, it only makes sense to agree to the fact that too many teachers & parents are medicating children that they view as too hyper, instead of seeking alternative routes (Dewar, 2017). These children often get labeled, and this follows them all throughout their educational years and can affect them for years to come. 

The Reality of the ADHD 

There have existed numerous doubts as to the realities of the ADHD condition on children or as if it is just a misconception that exists on the health profession. Several psychological investigations have led to the research satisfaction that has indeed led to the very truth that among the young population, the cases of ADHD are quite prevalent (Foley, 2018). With the increased information about Autobahn Denis Foley allays the fear that the exposure of the American children to the very fact that the ADHD is not a condition of the modern age (Dewar, 2017). The article discusses the existence of the undeniable backlash about the very diagnosis of the ADHD on the youths. 

The research Hypothesis 

Denis Foley in his research concerning the article on “Growing Up with ADHD” sought to determine if indeed the ADHD is real and as to whether there has been a consistent misdiagnosis of this condition. This research relates closely with my intended investigations especially about the fact that our investigations have found consistent erroneous labeling of the youths suffering from this condition. The article also goes ahead to divulge very relevant information about the society prejudice and the social stereotypes that continue to affect the educational prosperity of the youths (Foley, 2018). As was observed in the research by the Gwen Dewar in her article “ADHD in children: What parents need to know about attention and hyperactivity problems,” the diagnosis of the ADH conditions in children have gone wrong (Dewar, 2017). This hypothesis marries effectively with the topic under investigations seeking to determine how the misdiagnosis of the ADHD in the children by both the parents and teachers have continued to impact on the teenager’s education as well s their future lies. 

Symptoms of ADHD 

The anxiety in children and the youth are vast. These indicators, if misread may lead to the selective treatment, misunderstanding and the general disagreements that exist between the youths and the society. As was realized by the Gwen in her investigations concerning the difficulty of identifying the ADHD in the children, they may include such factors as distractibility, impulsive, and general hyperactivity in the whole group of children (Foley, 2018). The dangers with the wrong diagnosis of the children are that they may end up being more distracted of more withdrawn from the society. Due to such factors and more, the research by Denise found that the rate of misdiagnosis on the children with the ADHD has been on a steady rise in the recent past (Dewar, 2017). Such overmedication of the ADHD leads to the labeling of the youths with the traits that impact on them all the way to their future. 

Effect of ADHD on a Child’s Life 

The effects of ADHD are vast. The research on the effect of ADHD on the children was conducted by Denise to realize the real impact. The research also sought to find out the effect of misdiagnosis on the eventual educational and lifetime effect on the children (Foley, 2018). The research engaged vast methodologies, analysis, and recommendations. 

Methodology 

The research by Denise was carried out on a 14-year old Zoe Williams. The investigation involved daily monitoring and the engagement s with her mother who already had a predetermined notion and perception about her daughter. The mother was meant to sign a diary and a daily journal concerning the changes in the character of Zoe and what options of treatment he sought to follow. 

The research also sought to seek oral and written responses from Zoe’s teachers and playmates as to what they perceive of her. The teacher’s comments would be combined with the mother’s to come up with a reliable data for investigation. This research also had a control experiment in Zoe’s siblings. The research sought to find the difference in the pattern of their growth, reactions, education and eventually their life skills and general endeavors. 

Results 

The research by Denise was quite interesting. Zoe’s mother had a fixed notion about her daughter. She did not know how o control her anymore and as the research found, she referred to her as ‘fire.’ Zoe was always hyper in everything that she was doing, be it sporting activities dancing or ant type of competition. Zoe was diagnosed with ADHD when she was so impulsive in everything she did. The research of the investigation found that the agitating nature of Zoe made her be alienated from may activities by both the teachers and the playmates. 

The reactions by Zoe were always emotional. She would react violently to slight provocations. She always felt that everyone, including her mother, siblings, and teachers were against her. She wrote in her diary severally of her disliking the way her mother treated her and or always reacted to her concerns. The finding was quite obvious that Zoe was labeled for her ADHD condition. Other parents warned their children against playing with Zoe, and at times she had the whole field to her with her purported playmates watching her from the confines of their windows. 

The various interviews that were held by the teachers unearthed a clear discriminatory attitude by the teachers against Zoe. She was a black sheep in the team and at times had to be excluded from activities. Her mother was more concerned and had sought several medications for the child. She had moved from hospital to hospital in the hope that she would find the right medicine that could calm her daughter to no avail. True to the subject of the investigation, the overmedication of the ADHD only worsened Zoe’s condition with her reported drop in the class works. 

Discussion 

The research by Denise was a clear indication of what the ADHD teens have always faced in the society. There is clear victimization, discrimination, and labeling that dominates the research. At any point and time, there exists a situation where the ADHD teenagers have their entire future messed up in the struggle to medicate their condition other than finding alternative ways of mitigating their condition. There is much resemblance between the ADHD condition of autism in children. The children that suffer autisms are quite impulsive and fall from the mild to a severe sphere (Foley, 2018). Just as in the case of Zoe, the children with the attention deficiency are quite forgetful and keep jumping from one point to another in an attempt to find a common understanding for themselves. 

The finding of the research on the ADHD condition of Zoe unearthed the very concern that the condition makes one blind about the future. They never have anything done on time, just like Zoe was always late with her class assignments, but always was ready to engage in non-educational activities. But unlike the chronical stage of the ADHD condition among the old persons, the mild condition that was evident on Zoe indicate instances of hyperactivity and as such medication should not be the ultimate solution to their condition. 

Alternative Solution 

There have been several discussions seeking to discern the most beneficial treatment and creation of a sufficient recovery path for the patients suffering from the ADHD condition. There is the element comparison between medical and parenting as a sure way of treating this condition. According to the research by Denise, there is a need to engage the understanding of genetic formulation in the development and the eruption of the ADHD condition among the children that suffer the same. While about 70%-90% of the patients that suffer from the ADHD condition take Ritalin as a sure way of controlling their ADHD condition (Foley, 2018). Such drugs have been known to create almost instant results on the ones suffering from the condition, such that they can control their emotions, they become less agitated as well as more composed. However, the drug treatment has been seen to be just a temporary treatment course. Once the drugs run out of power in the body system them the patient gets back to their former condition (Foley, 2018). There is, therefore, need to engage other recovery options for the long recovery process. 

Parenting and behavior therapy is a long-term approach to curing and ensuring that the ADHD condition among the teenagers and adolescents is better controlled. The parenting skills are known to inculcate a lasting attitude, understanding, and cooperation among the patients suffering from the ADHD condition. They lay down stable and proper neuronal skills that are founded in the learning that the medicines cannot provide at all (Foley, 2018). Even the medical experts such as Pelham agree that the medicines are the just a temporary solution to the ADHD condition, as compared to alternative means such as parenting skills and behavioral changes. 

The Strengths and Weaknesses of the study 

The study by Denise was largely effective in proving real-time information on a real-time case on Zoe. The research, also relying on control experiments in the names of siblings and playmates provided a comparison of character from the children with ADHD condition from those without. 

This research, however, had its set of deficiencies. There was very little or low inclusion of empirical data that would provide statistical back up to the claims and findings. Statistical data are known to provide real-time information for comparison purpose (Foley, 2018). I would involve healthcare associations such as the American Psychology Association to provide me with relevant data to back up this research. 

Conclusion 

ADHD condition exists in the modern society. In essence, the condition ranging from mild to severe reacts on people differently. The reliance on medication is not the clearest mitigation to the condition. There is a need for the concerned parties to rely on other alternatives including parenting styles. The generation of the unique behavioral condition is also a sure way of helping the individual with the condition. There is also a need to involve the kids in extra-curricular activities as such increasing their appetite for class work whenever their get change tp. When not well controlled, ADHD condition leads to poor education and eventually affects the future of the affected individuals (Foley, 2018). 

This research has lifted the lid on the general feelings of the population, I included. Many times, I found myself misjudging the children with the ADHD condition not knowing that I had a role to play as part of the society in solving the condition. I have been a culprit of discrimination and biasness towards these individuals which has not helped the course at all. I have seen the worsening of the condition of the children subjected to overmedication. I have seen their grades drop; I have witnessed them labeled as rebels and face discrimination from the general society. This research, I have, however, learned to be better.
