Early childhood is a time of fun and being introduced to the world through education. I say fun because, at this time, children do lots of drawing, games and other activities that absorb all of their energies, leaving them exhausted at the end of the day and very much receptive to that nap. This is also at the time where children are introduced to some form of learning, like the words of the alphabet, comprehension and basic mathematics. With the advancement in technology, this has been made possible as tutors and daycare professionals, even parents can introduce their young children to such education with ease using learning tools like tablets and applications. This is the form of advantage that children born today can enjoy though not everyone.
It is undoubtedly different from the days when I was just a child, new to the world and naïve at best. My parents did not home school me, but I had a normal childhood. I had my toys and always looked forward to getting new ones at Christmas, and my mother gave me some few lessons on hygiene and orderliness, most of which I did not follow until consequences were introduced. But she did so with love and compassion while teaching me basic table manners like not talking while chewing food and sitting straight and arranging my toys after a session of play. At the daycare, everything was done manually, we drew houses, painted boxes and even joined in the fun and games with the tutors and other kids at the place before being picked up by my parents.

Looking back, I cannot recall everything of the things that we did, but the few I can bring back the sense of fulfillment I had. Without some form of technology which exists in abundance today like tablets and video games, we still had fun, playing hide and seek, filling puzzles and making castles among other activities. I want to have a positive impact on the lives of the children that will be trusted in my care. When children have a good foundation while they are young, they tend to grow up with ethical values and become responsible citizens. I did not become the person that I am today without the influence and guidance of my parents and the teachers hence it would be great if I can instill ethical values in children.
While we cannot avoid the role technology has to play in the development of children today, teachers and parents will have an even more significant role to play in shielding the children from the negative influences. As a teacher, I will be better placed in doing this role.
