The Benefits of Face-to-Face Communication

When conducting an interview, one of the most recommended forms is through face-to-face communication. There are several benefits that an interviewe will get through such form of discussion. Face-to-face interviewing is one of the oldest and widely used methods of conducting primary research. One of the advantages of the face-to-face interview is the idea that the interviewer will gain a much deeper understanding relating to some of the questions. As such, he/she would create it to be a discussion by trying to find more information about the topic. Also, the person could ask questions and get immediate feedback unlike other types of interviews which may take long for appropriate feedback. 

Through face-to-face communication, the interviewer can learn some of the ways in which a respondent I supposed to answer questions. As such, the person would learn some of the body languages of the responded to determine if the facts given are correct or false. Also, it is established that many people are less likely to lie through face-to-face communication. In that case, most of the facts given tend to represent the exact information that the interviewer wants to get from that individual.

There is also some disadvantage of conducting face-to-face communication, and some of them include the following. First, it is time-consuming since a person is likely to spend a much longer time on one person trying to find out more information about the topic. Also, face-to-face communication is more expensive compared to other methods of conducting research such it involves travelling to distance places to meet the people personally. However, with the introduction of modern technology, people could conduct interviews through Skype. The use of a questionnaire is not very effective methods since some people tend to lie by giving false information. Also, there are no people to supervise them making is easy for them to decide to either give out information or not unlike face-to-face communication. 

Structured questions refer to the formal interview process in which the interviewer is not supposed to deviate from the questions. In most cases, the same questions are repeated in other interviews, and the person could learn from others on how to successful conduct the process. There are several benefits of having structured questions compared with unstructured questions. One of the advantages is that the process is usually quick and time-saving. This is because only formal questions which are of the interview people are asked. Also, the responded does not require giving more details concerning that topic. Another advantage is that because the questions are formal and repeated, it gives time for the responder to research and get more information on how to answer them. As such, the responder would be more competent in the interview process as he/she would have more idea. 

One of the disadvantages of structured questions is that interviews are not flexible. As such, limited information can be achieved from that process. Also, the answers from structured interviews lack details (Smith, 2012). Unstructured interviews are more flexible as questions can change depending on the respondent’s answers. 

One the advantages of open-ended response are that it permits unlimited numbers of the possible question. In that light, the interview will have a wide range of information regarding that case study. Also, anticipated findings could be discovered in the process which would be beneficial to the research design. Lastly, they permit answers to complex issues. 

One of the disadvantages of open-ended response is that different respondents give a different degree of details in answers. Also, in some cases, responses may be irrelevant or buried in useless details. Another disadvantage is that fact that answers take a lot of space in the questionnaire. 

Some alternative response strategies include the use of telephones and video calls to conduct the interview process. For example, if people belong to different countries. It saves them the cost of travelling. 

Obtaining Results from a Survey 

Some of the facts that could assist in obtaining relevant results from a survey include the following. First, it is important to clarify the survey objectives to act as a roadmap. As such, it would ensure that the survey process if effective. Also, it is important to select the survey's target to save on the resources needs to accomplish the process. Prioritising the questions is also another way that could assist in obtaining relevant results from a survey. 

A researcher builds rapport with a participant through being personable. This involves talking to the responder as if he/she was your friend. In that light, it would make the responder open up to most of the information that you may want to get from him. 

Confidentiality is likely to lead to better results from survey since it would enable the people to have more faith on the interviewers. In most case, lack of confidence will result in the people giving false information which are not reliable for the survey process. 

Pretesting is referred to the process of evaluating some of the research questions to determine if they are appropriate for that survey or not. For example, for survey process that relates to certain diseases, it would be important to pretest the questioners that would be given to the study group.
