Team development in health care organization is a vital element that helps in enhancing the quality of services rendered to the patients and promotes the overall performance of the organization in a given industry. The teams developed in the organization are required to focus on enhancing adequate collaboration and competency in a bid to promote effectiveness of the entire organization on issues relating to the nature of services provided to the patients. Collaboration between the team members and other teams in the organization helps in overcoming various issues concerning diversity and help in the management of conflicts in the organization in order to capitalize on positive working relationships in the organization. Additionally, effective teamwork in the healthcare organization provides an avenue for effective communication between the employees and the management on issues relating to effective measures and strategies that are necessary in handling the patients (Levasseur, 2011). Majority of the healthcare organization capitalize on the development of effective teams towards the achievement of the goals and objectives defined by the organization. The following report will focus on conducting team development analysis on Texas Medical Center, which is one of the health care organizations in Texas that capitalize on teamwork.

Texas Medical Center is a healthcare organization located in Houston, Texas and operates under the Texas Medical Center Corporation, which is considered to be one of the largest medical complexes in the United States. The organization capitalizes on the provision of a wide range of healthcare services to the patients and provides an avenue for translational research relating to the public health in the society. Texas Medical Center operates over fifty medical institutions across the world thus accommodating a huge number of patients with different medical conditions. Considering the size of the organization, the medical center operates an employee capacity of over 160,000 that undertakes various roles and responsibilities towards the achievement and delivery of proper care to the patients and the society. The employees include doctors and disease specialist, nurses and other supporting staffs that are involved in the provision of care services in the organization. In order to capitalize on effective delivery of healthcare services based on its large client base, the organization focuses on the effective development of teams that allow the employees and management to collaborate effectively in enhancing the nature of services delivered to the patients. The management of the organization acknowledges the importance of enhancing team work in order to deliver quality and effective services in the society.

The development of teams in a health care organization focuses on a number of factors that involve the nature of goals and objectives of an organization, and the size and services offered within the organization. According to Levasseur (2011), different types of teams in a given organization have different capabilities, functions, needs, and challenges, therefore the need to undertake a proper analysis to determine the types of teams present in an organization. Knowing the type of teams in a healthcare organization allows the management to monitor on the performance on the teams based on the characteristics of the teams towards the achievement of specific objectives. An analysis of the teams in Texas Medical Center indicates that the medical institutions have four categories of teams that are developed to capitalize on enhancing the overall performance in the organization relating to the delivery of a wide range of medical services to the society. The teams comprises of various members who undertake their roles and responsibilities effectively and capitalize on proper team work in order to ensure positive impact of the teams in the organization. The teams present in the medical facility include advice and involvement, project and development team, service and production team, and negotiation and action teams (Mosser & Begun, 2013).

The first category of teams in Texas Medical Center that entail the advice and involvement personnel capitalizes on the enhancement of quality improvement in the delivery of products and services offered by the organization. According to Levi (2015), the health care industry requires utmost quality and professionalism in delivery of services considering that public health in an important aspect in the society. Texas Medical Center developed the team in order to address various issues concerning quality of services provided in the institution and provide recommendations on various changes that are relevant in promoting quality care. The team focuses on providing advice on the healthcare practices that may established by the organization in order to ensure that patients receive quality services concerning diagnosis and treatment procedures undertaken within the hospital. Members of the advice and involvement may include medical directors, nursing staffs, health educators, physicians among others. The second team identified within the medical facility entails the project and development team. The team entails the implementation of technical expertise that is necessary in the development of the services undertaken within the organization (Mosser & Begun, 2013). The main function of the team is to ensure that the health records in the organization are properly maintained in order to ensure easy access and confidentiality of the records. The team capitalizes on the provision of recommendations regarding the developments that require to be made regarding the nature of systems to be used on the health care facility (Levasseur, 2011).

The production and service team in Texas Medical Center entails the clinical teams that focus assessing, planning, and evaluating patient care based on the nature of conditions that are presented by the patients. The team comprises of health professionals with adequate skills and competency in dealing with various health conditions among the patients (Mosser & Begun, 2013). The team comprises various personnel who share a common goal in the provision of health care services. The team involves directors of clinical practices, medical directors, doctors and nursing representatives. The medial facility focus on making proper investment on the teams to ensure that the necessary resources required in enhancing teamwork is available in a bid to capitalize on positive performances in the organization. Lastly, the action and negotiation teams focus on undertaking the legal processes required by the organization in order ensure that the organization complies with the legal aspect outlined in the constitution relating to the delivery of medical care to the patients (Levi, 2015). The second main function of the team is to handle conflicts that arise among the employees and among the patients during the delivery of healthcare services by providing relevant avenues to air grievances. The team capitalizes on making negotiations relating various plans that may be helpful in improving patient-nurse relationship (Mosser & Begun, 2013).

The mentioned teams within the healthcare organization focus on enhancing internal collaboration to ensure that the members of the teams are in positions to engage in teamwork. The teams engage in collaborative strategies that help in improving teamwork as well as the relationships between the members within the teams. The first important internal collaborative function of the team is to capitalize on effective communication between the team members. The provision of a proper communication platform within a team helps in enhancing the functions of the teams towards the achievement of objectives defined within the team. The second internal collaborative element focuses on outlining clear roles of individuals in the team in order to eliminate any conflict among the team members thus interfering with effective teamwork. Lastly, the team members capitalize on engaging in social activities to boost interaction and positive relations within the teams. Other than enhancing collaboration between members of the team, the organization has capitalized on ensuring that there is effective partnership among different teams in the organization in order ensure enhanced performances in the organization. The first collaborative function of each team is to focus on effective communication with various teams in the organizations. Communication between teams helps in ensuring that the important issues affecting the organizations are addressed promptly (Levi, 2015). The second collaborative function entails the establishment of recognition programs in the organization that encourages the teams to be competitive. The programs capitalize on rewarding the best teams that portray teamwork and those with the ability to collaborate with other teams to enhance the performances of the organization.

According to Levasseur (2011), team leaders are required to facilitate effective collaboration in order to ensure that teams have the ability to work towards the achievement of the organizational goals and objectives. The first recommendation for the team leaders entails encouraging two way feedback within the team in order to ensure that the team members have the platform to communicate and present their feedback regarding various issues within the team. The second recommendation involves building team spirit within the team to ensure that the member is in a position to engage in teamwork. Building team spirit helps in creating an environment where the team members feel to be part of the team considering that they are given the platform to make various relevant contributions relating to the enhancement of the teams. Encouraging team spirit helps in team bonding where all members are able to relate and communicate effectively. Lastly, team leaders are entitled to capitalize on encouraging training sessions that provide the team members with the relevant knowledge relating to the importance of team work in the organization. The implementation of the given recommendations in the teams within the health care industry will help in enhancing the nature and quality of services delivered to the patients.

In summary, team development is an important element within the healthcare industry considering the nature of product and services provided. It is therefore necessary to ensure that an organization is in a position to support the development of the teams through the provision of required resources and support. Texas Medical Center is an example of a healthcare organization that supports team development in order to ensure a comprehensive achievement of the set goals and objectives. The medical facility has four categories of teams that collaborate effectively in order to ensure that the facility provides excellent services to the patients without major setbacks. The teams developed within the organization comprises of various professionals and skilled personnel to ensure that the team goals are achieved. The team leaders of various teams in Texas Medical Center capitalize on the implementation of various strategies to enhance collaboration between members of the team and among various teams in a bid to achieve the desired results.
