The different available dictionaries define the environment differently. According to the Longman Dictionary of American English, the environment is the air, water, and land in which people, animals, and plants live. The Oxford dictionary defines environment as the defender conditions that affect the behavior and the development of someone or something. It gives an example of how a toxic home environment can make a child so violent to others around them. Chambers dictionary defines environment as the surroundings or conditions in which animals, plants, and people operate and live.
All these definitions have some similarities and differences. One similarity is that the three dictionaries include the existence of both the living and the nonliving things. They all indicate that both plants, animals, and humans depend on the environment to survive. The difference between the three dictionaries is that the Oxford dictionary pins the environment to the behavior and development of people, and the others indicate environment as the surroundings of the animals and people.

Environmental health is the different aspects of human health determined by various factors such as physical, chemical psychological, and social in the environment they live in. What surrounds us is our environment, and we should be ready to protect it from being destroyed in any way (Moella, 2011). It is essential to ensure that we maintain a healthy environment as it helps in enhancing the quality of people’s lives as there will be a reduction in the pollutants within the environment.
The weekly materials definitions contradict the dictionary definitions. They define environmental health as the absence of any toxic materials in the atmosphere and describe the environment as a highly polluted area. The weekly materials create a different picture of what environment health is, as it bases on associating environmental health to pollution caused by metals such as mercury, lead, copper and nickel.
By optimizing environmental health, people are in better positions of being protected from diseases and the different pollutants that are toxic to the body (Bravender & Bravender, 2020). As the environment has a way of affecting the living things, it is crucial to be vigilant in ensuring that the domain is well-taken care of to protect all the living things, plants, animals, and humans from being affected negatively.
