Conservatives and liberals hold different views on the state rights. The difference in their attitudes is brought by their diverse ideologies in life and society. These two factions tend to differ in their approval of some of the state rights and federal rights offered to the people. To start with, conservatives are influenced by traditional and religious rules that hinder them from the practice of same-sex marriage. They strongly believe that marriage must only exist between a man and a woman. However, liberals advocate for equal rights for gays, lesbians, transgenders, and bisexuals. Also, conservatives argue that illegal immigrants should not enjoy the same rights as other citizens while the liberals claim that illegal migrants should be facilitated with proper documentation (Voegeli, 2008). Lastly, conservatives are opposed to abortion which to them is a termination of life. Therefore, they only support abortion if the pregnancy endangers the mothers’ health. However, the liberals believe in freedom of choice and think that the government should provide financial support to women to ensure safe and legal abortion (Hunt, 2018). Based on these aspects, it is evident that the conservatives and liberals have differing attitudes towards various state privileges.

Response 1

I agree with my classmate that conservatives and liberals attitude differs largely on various aspects. It is important to learn about the beliefs of both factions in political, social, and economic issues. According to Hunt (2018), conservatives have second-guessed the liberals on gay marriages in the District of Columbia; consequently, conservatives also endorse a law that prohibits discrimination against employees who seek contraception, family planning counselor or abortion, which are aspects supported by the liberals in this State. These are some of the state rights in which the conservatives and liberals develop different attitudes simply because of the notion of having divergent ideas in political, social, and economic aspects. It is also correct that the conservatives tend to favor state rights more than the federal rights as opposed to the liberals who approve federal rights more than the state rights.

Response 2

I agree with my classmate that both the conservatives and liberals have different views on the major aspects of life, as well as, the policies formulated by the governments of the day. The liberals are viewed as the faction that enjoys enhanced diversity as compared to the conservatives who are believed to support traditional values and rules. I also agree that the conservatives hold consenting attitudes to the state rights as opposed to liberals that have their interests rooted in some of the federal rights such as the same-sex marriages and abortion rights.
