The main aim of the article is to carry out an investigation about the existence of the wage gaps between college students. In this case, the article refers to the gap between the continuing and the first generating students in terms of their wages. Students’ abilities, academic qualifications, among many others, can affect the performance despite a higher grade in schools. This can cause a variation in their wages. One of the questions is on the extent to which the gap of wages varies in the institutions and the levels of achievement of the students. This question is very important as it helps to know whether high achievers have high wages as compared to the low achievers, and vice versa. The other question is whether the college degree is an equalizer for the candidates of various statuses. This question is very important as it will help in determining whether the status of the student would be affected his/her qualification in the college or university.
The hypothesis for the study was accounting for the possibility of women facing constraints because of the lower wages. The lower wages make women continue facing challenges of life. The theory of Bourdieu is more applicable to men than to women. The results showed that there is an overall generational wage gap across the majors, institutions, and achievement levels. The levels tend to disappear when a comparison of the student is made based on their labor market experiences, education credentials individual features. The findings are important as they show that despite similar qualifications of students in school, differences in wages can occur as a result of the other individual differences.
