The stunning revelation that there were individuals walking on all fours has sent shock waves across the global divide. Most of the scientists who have seen the condition being exhibited allude to a rare kind of mutation which they term as backwards evolution. This implies that the family members have not yet fully evolved. They exhibit the characteristics of man`s ancestors during the stage of development where they could not walk. This, nevertheless, does not concur with all individuals` perception, especially since not everybody believes in the theory of evolution. Even so, one cannot help but imagine that probably the environment they were cultured in could have had an effect on them as well. Psychologists point towards a rare kind of brain underdevelopment especially on the part responsible for the movement of individuals.

A lot of questions referring to genetics have been raised since bipedalism has long being considered a significant characteristic of man. Even so, psychologists have sought to unravel the mystery with special emphasis being on psychological explanations that could probably be offered to explain this rare occurrence. The quadrupedal gait exhibited by the five members of the Kurdish family has some psychological connotation. This also applies to Gülin, one of the sons of the Kurdish family who can walk upright though staggering as if he is drunk ( Humphrey, 2011 ). First one has to comprehend that for such individuals they are most probably experiencing imbalance within their brains. Uner Tan Syndrome has been provided as the condition which these individuals are suffering from (McCoy, 2014). This is a psychological condition which occurs where individuals lose balance owing to the impairment of their cognitive senses. This also has no evolutionary connotation since the speech patterns of the siblings do not matter and hence it is impossible for them to communicate by using the same language.

It is apparent that the cerebellum caters for body balance and also spatial alignment. In this case, partial damage could easily result to imbalance thus offering a psychological explanation on what could have caused the individuals to walk on all fours. This is in tandem with psychologist John Skoyles explanation who had undertaken intense research prior to the revelation of the individuals. He labels the condition cerebellar ataxia ( The Five Siblings of the Ulas Family”, n.d. ). This could explain why the siblings are yet to walk on all fours. An alteration or remedy of their cerebellum could probably alter the condition. When physiotherapy intervention is offered to the siblings, they end up being able to walk since their cerebellum can already detect the action.

The condition of these individuals could be explained by focusing on the possibility that cerebellar vermis could have occurred which is a condition exhibiting defectiveness in the cerebellum. This, nevertheless, does not offer a conclusive explanation on Gülin`s condition since he inherited the same trait yet can manage to walk upright. Twofold is, therefore, deemed to be the causative factor whereby a rare form of genetic and recessive mutation occurs. This in turn results in congenital cerebellar ataxia (“ The Five Siblings of the Ulas Family”, n.d. ). A clear look at the film establishes that the individuals use part of their hand to walk and that their fingers are not affected ( Humphrey, 2011 ). This is contrary to the crawl established in the evolutionary theory which makes it more possible that this is a psychological and not an evolutionary condition.

To sum it up, it is evident that a rare kind of brain underdevelopment especially on the cerebellum which is responsible for the movement of individuals offers an explanation on the condition suffered by the 5 siblings of the Kurdish family. Although evolutionary adaptations have been posed as part of the reason why the evolution could have been impossible, it is likely that this is not the case. With some effort being made on their movement, it was discerned that it could be possible for them to walk. Psychological intervention, hence, appears to be an aspect that could end up offering a lasting solution to these individuals leading them to appear normal and more productive with ease of mobility.
