Immanuel Kant held the notion that countires, similar to people, require a conventional formula of regulation, by law, that may be formulated by a freely gathered “league of nations”, which, presently, is known as the UN (United Nations) (Kant, 2013). In the case that such a system lacks, countries resort to unconventional ways of settling disputes, that is, war. It ought to be noted that as much as one may be victorious, in th event of a war, this does not warranty positive outcomes in conflict resolution. In line with such evenytualities, it is these free states’ federation that builts a platform which presents an opportunity for the various nations to assemble and negotiate in a peaceful manner. This serves as a more tolerant alternative to confrontation.

A considerable number of historians suppose that the “league of nations” played a significant role in subverting confrontational tactics and instead, instilling sanity in Wester Europe. In this era, the borders were open to goods, money, ideas and people (Kant, 2013). These free movemnets of people and commodities made it hard for any nation to think about attacking another country. So, military conflicts were very minimal, if not none.

In addition, for the fact that nations worked together and their leaders interacted freely, they formulated several rules that enhanced their teamwork (Kant, 2013). By assuming the non-biased judge’s role, they were able to resolve disagreements amongst themselves. Furthermore, the fact that they had a flourishing market that was quite vast in its range, it was easy to lure new entrants to forfeit their territories (Portugal) or to compel them to ‘liberal democracy’ ( Soviet satellites).

It is apparent that Kant’s idea was significant as it averted so many confrontational moments among the states. Apart from that, cooperation was enhanced and other aspects such as trade was boosted.
