Think of a class outside of your major.Using the Gestalt principle,"The whole is greater than the sum of the parts," describe your preconceived perception of the class, three details that you now know are different from that initial perception, and your continuing perception in spite of the details 

The Gestalt principle the whole is greater than the sum of the parts presents the idea that objects and situations could be observed in their purest form. The Principle implements the law of simplicity by maintaining that a wholesome in an object or event is significant compared to individual parts of the given object. Gestalt principle in psychology attempts to develop an understanding regarding the ability to get meaningful perceptions in a given situation. The principle mentions that when there is a perception in the human mind concerning a specific element, the whole individual has a reality of the nature of happenings (Epstein & Hatfield, 2004). In this case, perceptions form the basis of complex interactions relating to various stimuli within different issues. The principle allows an individual to have an understanding concerning different perceptions towards a particular issue a change in perception that may result from changing an environment. The essay will focus on addressing the preconceived perception of an outside class and the changes an individual may experiences regarding the subject matter based on the perceptions.

The class outside of my major, in this case, is nursing, which is a class that does not associate with my current major in any way. The first preconceived perception I had regarding the class concerns the nature of activities learned and undertaken during the classes. The preconceived perceptions on the problematic nature of activities in the major were based on adequate evidence concerning the class. According to my understanding concerning the class, I perceived different thoughts and ideologies regarding the difficulties and the hardships associated with the class. Epstein & Hatfield (2004) mention that preconceived perceptions are influenced by personal belief, thoughts, opinions, and personal opinions concerning any given matter. The Gestalt principle maintains that perceptions result from complex interactions and individual experiences and thoughts towards various factors. 

According to the Gestalt principle, gaining adequate understanding concerning a particular subject matter helps in gaining the correct perceptions and opinions that are based on the truths and the honest facts. Upon gaining sufficient understanding concerning the nursing class, I learned some details that were not part of my initial perception. Firstly, I learned that the class has similar theoretical approaches similar to those within my psychology class that help the learners to understand concepts and ideologies taught the class. The second detail learned involved the nature of the practical application of the theories and learning activities defined within the class. Lastly, I learned that the nursing classes are more theoretical and require the students to understand the theory part before considering the practical part of the class. 

The Gestalt principle maintains that a human mind perceives different ideas and opinions based on the nature of the environment and external and internal factors influencing an individual thinking capacity towards a particular matter (Epstein & Hatfield, 2004). The ideas and opinions from the preconceived perceptions that are based on inadequate information. The principle, in this case, maintains that it is necessary to have adequate knowledge concerning a given matter compared to have inadequate details that only lead to preconceived perception. The more magnificent view of the matter is important and relevant and plays a significant role in defining the appropriate perceptions. In this case, gaining a constant understanding of the class and the nature of activities undertaken in the class has helped in creating a change in perception based on the details. However, it is difficult to eliminate initial perceptions thus a gradual process that intends to change the preconceived perceptions. 

In church and other settings, announcements are made that affect you. Label and describe four techniques covered in the textbook which the speaker could use to keep your attention. 

Increasing attention is a critical factor that helps an individual to concentrate and focus on the understanding the intended information being delivered. In a church setting, it is relevant that individuals are attentive to understand the fundamental announcements and information that is communicated. The implementation of appropriate techniques to improve and enhance attention among the listeners helps in delivering information efficiently and increases communication and feedback. The first technique involves creating a visual impression in the mind of the listeners through the use of tactile sensations and gustative impressions. The technique allows the listeners to focus on the information being delivered and gain understanding of the actual message. The second technique involves ensuring brief and concise information being delivered. An audience tends to listen and concentrate on brief and concise speech or announcement compared to lengthy announcements. The third technique involves learning the behavior and character of the audience. This helps in determining the nature of language and methods to use while delivering the intended messages to the audience thus increasing attention. Lastly, examining a design and plan to deliver information helps in capturing the attention of the listeners and help to keep the listeners interested in learning and understanding the message. 

You have gone through stages of Piaget's cognitive development, in your professional beliefs and in your theological beliefs.Name and trace the development of any 1 of your beliefs through all four stages.Give at least one specific characteristic for each stage and use terms from Piaget's theory.Though you may not remember your cognitive development at every stage, trace what must have happened to you at each stage to allow your current functioning.With this belief, what is the best stage for you to be in now, and why? 

Piaget's cognitive development involves some stages that help in defining and understanding the nature of healthy intellectual development. The stages of Piaget’s cognitive development help in explaining the development of a personal, professional, or theological belief (Ghazi & Ullah, 2015). In this case, I will focus on analyzing my theological belief of the existence of God as a supernatural being. The development of the belief has undergone the four stages and had advanced to each stage. In the Sensorimotor stage, I developed the belief through hearing while in Preoperational stage I learned different factors that helped to instill the belief. Such factors included learning songs and prayers that speak about the supernatural being. In the Concrete operational stage, I developed the consciousness that helps in understanding the meaning of a supernatural being and the existence of God through the happenings in the environment. In the Formal operational, which is the current stage I am in, I have learned to discern and comprehend what it means to believe that God exists and have concrete reasons for such beliefs. 

Think of classes in your major. Name three concepts from Vygotsky's theory and provide examples of how they could help to boost your zone of proximal development (ZPD)for learning in those classes. 

Vygotsky’s theory argues that social interaction is a crucial element that precedes social development in an individual leading to cognition and consciousness as the results of social behaviors. When considering a class in my major, it is necessary to consider the concept of the theory in a bid to boost learning in such a class. The concepts help in ensuring that individual gains the relevant strategies that help in boosting the proximal personal development. The first concept involves Social interaction, which is a critical element of cognitive development. Social interaction helps in developing appropriate social behaviors that allow an individual to interact and adapt to new environments (Ghazi & Ullah, 2015). The second concept includes the “More Knowledgeable Other," which refers to persons with higher abilities than the learners. The third concept involves Zone of Proximal Development, which defines an individual’s ability to perform a given task independently or under specific guidelines. The implementation of the concepts helps in increasing the performance level in a given class and enhances individual ability to perform independently.
