Chapter 8 evaluates the Gospel of John as a comparative writing that analyzes the works of Jesus by comparing it with other Gospels. The author evaluates the different teachings as presented in the Gospel of John and uses commentary by other people to demonstrate how it compares with the other Gospels. The organization of the Gospel of John closely follows the life of Jesus Christ in a chronological order by recounting Jesus’ works. Readers are taken through the life of Christ from birth till the time he died on the cross, resurrected and ascended into heaven. Thus, the scripture follows a spiritual path by focusing on Jesus Christ as a spiritual being that came on earth to do the works of God. The Gospel of John distinguishes Jesus from all earthly beings by examining the close interactions that Jesus had with people especially his disciples. The contents in chapter 8 provide an elaborate understanding of the Gospel of John from Apostle’s John perspective.
Reflection
Chapter 8 provides readers with a different perspective of the New Testament. Through the analysis of the Gospel of John one is able to recognize the teachings presented as spiritual guidelines that are inspired by the life, and works performed by Jesus Christ on earth. At the beginning of the chapter readers are introduced to some of the commentaries made by others on the Gospel of John; each of the comments summaries the Gospel of John as a spiritual writing. This is true, since the Gospel of John concentrates on the intimate life of Jesus Christ and allows believers to understand the plan that God had for humanity when he sent Jesus Christ on earth to deliver us from our sins. Apostle John allows believers to form a close relationship with their savior by providing extensive insight on Jesus’ life and the impact He had on his followers.
