The difference between Governor Phil Murphy and Lieutenant Sheila Oliver is based on state responsibilities. The Lieutenant Governor’s task is to serve as the president of New Jersey’s Senate. In case, incapacity is experienced by the Governor, and then the Lieutenant Governor picks the role of the Governor in the remaining term. Lieutenant Sheila is second in command after Governor Phil Murphy in New Jersey. Governor Phil Murphy helps in overseeing the state executive operations and implementing the state roles. At the same time, Lieutenant Governor Sheila heads the administrative agency or the cabinet-level department within the Governor’s administration. 

Governor Phil Murphy 

Since taking office, New Jersey’s governor, Phil Murphy, has created a fairer and healthier state that works for each family. He has enacted pay law that is equal in the nation to deal with gender wage discrimination. He has signed legislation that makes the state opt for the $15-an-hour minimum pay. Another bill he has signed is on the expansion and protection of the LGBTQ community rights. The governor has also enacted the common-sense gun safety bill that allows New Jersey to have the most effective gun laws through a Gun Violence Research Center and creation of Gun Safety Coalition. Governor Phil Murphy has ensured that every employee is subject to paid sick days. Paid Family Leave provisions have also expanded under Phil Murphy. New Jersey’s governor has ensured that an innovation economy is created through workforce development and reinvestment and supporting start-up and innovative companies. Under his leadership, climate change has been combatted effectively through offshore-wind energy deployment and various measures to enhance renewable and clean energy sectors.

Governor Phil Murphy wants to accomplish things while in the office include community-based vaccination partnership targeting the underserved communities. He also wants to combat human trafficking, expand outdoor dining, and enhance programs regarding the Paycheck Protection Program. Governor Murphy has accomplished and is essential because the governor has prioritized COVID-19 response through an inclusive economic recovery by directing federal stimulus funds into food insecurity, rental assistance, and child care support and business grants. Another important accomplishment that the governor has done is that he has unveiled economic development to improve preschool funding since FY18 making almost 6,000 more children access quality education. Tuition-free community colleges are now accessible to thousands of students in New Jersey. 

Lieutenant Governor Sheila Y. Oliver 

Lieutenant Governor Sheila is a state officer who has helped leverage and expands a wide range of various initiatives to help the distressed municipalities. The initiatives are such as the “Neighborhood Revitalization Tax Credit Program”, the “Neighborhood Preservation Program”, “the Main Street New Jersey” and “Opportunity Zone Tax Incentive” programs. These programs under her watch have created increased funding. She has signed several bills into law, including the bills that established the Caregiver Task Force to aid people and their loved ones who are disabled or elderly. Other bills signed include those that strengthen equal pay and those that need students in all public schools, especially grade 6-8 to have financial literacy education. One thing that is important under Lieutenant Governor Sheila is the wage bill she signed that helps safeguard employees from wage theft and equal work that helps employees from being questioned about their previous salary history by their employers. Lieutenant Sheila focuses on accomplishing matters concerning community involvement, reorganizing the government, and issues related to the senior citizens while in office.
