The second chapter of “Sociology” is invaluable as it focuses on the importance of sociological research in opening up the society and helping people understand the various social issues around them. While reading this chapter, I was impressed how sociological knowledge can be used to understand different features found in topics such as gender, racial, inequality, and social class. Most importantly, I learned the focus of various research designs helped to understand how I could adopt various strategies in ensuring that my study in this field succeeds. I must commend the authors for addressing the concept of ethical issues because the subjects’ rights in any study should be protected just like their privacy. From this chapter, it is clear that sociology can be used to change the world by displaying how it features work in different sectors that involves the lifestyle of humans. Overall, the book educates people on how sociology has helped changed the world in both positive and negative ways.

The eleventh chapter titled “ Gender and Gender Equality ” was equally an invaluable read for me from this book. For instance, I learned to appreciate the differences between gender and gender equality and its importance in the current society. With such knowledge, I learned that with the help of sociology, people could acquire sociological knowledge that can help them solve issues that face them in today’s society. Some of the challenges in this area include addressing the need to promote gender equality without promoting sexism, addressing gender inequalities, and the needs for tough laws to curb gender violence. Whereas men have been made to look as though they are the lucky members of the society, the chapter enabled me to appreciate some dangers of abusing the benefits or advantages of being male. From the chapter, I felt that they should have addressed a similar issue concerning the females because they created a perception that they are just disadvantaged in all areas yet they are not.
